Plus: + Value for money as such but largely depending on what deal one can make. + Reception - friendly and efficient. + City Center + Public transport (with a trade off - see under minus) + Breakfast OK but just + Bar service - coffee service excellent + Room very good equipped + Clean + Excellent but expensive garage-parking. Minus: - The Airconditioning is a bad joke! Does not work but they offer you a (good working) ventilator instead! - Avoid if possible the rooms at the frontside corner. A continuous flow of traffic and loud Trams are passing. It’s impossible to open a window without running the risk of hearing damage!

Dieses Hotel ist den 4 Sternen absolut würdig. Das komplette Personal war sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Kommuniziert wurde vorab sehr kompetent und freundlich per Mail. Die Lobby ist sehr schön und einladend, mit Kaffeeautomat und Wasserspender. Wir wurden freundlich empfangen und es gab dann zu unserer Freude ein Upgrade. Das Zimmer war sehr schön - mit allem ausgestattet, super Matratze, Tablet und eine Kaffeemaschine. Das Frühstück war wirklich sehr gut - im UG, was aber durch helle schöne indirekte Lichtquellen (mit Himmelmotiv) ausgeglichen wurde und wir haben uns auch hier sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Bar und Personal war sehr schön, wir haben vorab reserviert und den gewünschten Tisch bekommen. Wenn wir nochmals nach Karlsruhe kommen, dann wieder dieses Hotel.

Wir waren enttäuscht: Im Februar 2022 nur Zimmerfrühstück ”wg. Corona”, welches man am Vorabend bestellen und die Lieferzeit angeben musste. Standard-Zimmer einschl. Bad sehr klein, Zimmertür zum Vorflur ließ sich nicht schließen (Bett im Weg), einfache Ausstattung. Wir wussten überhaupt nicht, wie und wo wir unser Frühstück einnehmen sollten. Die vier Sterne haben wir nicht gefunden. Dafür sind rd. 133 Euro + 15 Euro Tiefgarage pro Nacht zu viel. Positiv hervorzuheben ist die Lage mitten im Zentrum, das überaus freundliche und hilfsbereite Personal, die hauseigene Tiefgarage, in die man auch mit einem großen Auto kommt (allerdings muss man für Ein- und Ausfahrt sich jeweils eine Karte an der Rezeption holen und anschließend gleich wieder abgeben), freie Minibar (4 Flaschen).

We stayed at the hotel for one night to visit an event in Karlsruhe. The hotel is located in a nice historic building, which is nice optically, but also means that noise insulation and heating is a bit dated. You could hear the trams passing by outside, which was quite a rumble each time, but I was surprised how well I slept nevertheless. The bed was great. The heating was more of an issue in early spring; it takes a long time to heat up the room. It's ok if you usually sleep in a colder room, but for my partner, it was too cold. The wooden elevator is historic (a technical monument), which I liked due to my interest in history and technology. Don't expect a highly modern device, though. Aside from that, the building is kept in working state despite its age, although some renovation could do wonders. This could have been a grand hotel when it was built, and it still has the potential if they were to renovate it. In operations, the hotel unfortunately looses points. Not having a kettle nor a safe in the room if below standard for a four-star plus hotel. The nozzle of the hair dryer fell of, apparently broken. You can't just walk in at night, you need to ring for the nightman to let you in after hours. The main door is locked and there is no side door or card reader for your room card. You need them to send someone and let you in. There is limited parking, which worked out for us. Things might be different is the hotel has more guests, then you might need to find other parking spaces. In total, if you need accommodation near the main train station and don't require too much, it's a nice place to stay, especially if you get a good rate. If you expect a four-star plus experience, the hotel falls short of reasonable expectation.

I absolutely hate to give negative marks to anyone, but I feel that it is my responsibility to warn business travellers in particular about what seems to be going on at this hotel and, I am afraid, might well be going on across across the Novotel chain. I also want to alert their senior management who appear to have been deaf to comments passed to them by staff on the ground. I have used this hotel for almost 20 years for my occasional stays in Karlsruhe. It is clearly the first choice for business travellers to Karlsruhe: perfectly centrally located, superb transport connections, with all modern conveniences, very good and varied breakfast buffet, very helpful and unusually friendly staff and up until now well appointed rooms, But upon check-in this time, actually on a private visit, the staff seemed reluctant to let me have a room on the 4th floor, the first one to be completed in their current renovation process. I nevertheless chose a room there, had one look at it, and decided that it was a travesty for what is supposed to be a hotel for business travellers: No desk, no chair other than two huge reclining rocking chairs, no sockets other than a few German 220V outlets dotted about the room, one at a time, no USB charger points. In other words: not a place where one can do any work. Is a business traveller desperate to put a last touch on that PowerPoint for next morning going to balance a laptop on her lap while rocking in an easy chair just out of reach of the socket for the chargers? And, just to discourage the leisure traveller as well, they ripped out the bath tub and replaced it with a shower tray the same full size of a bathtub, and replaced the cupboard for your clothes with open hanging space only. My wife, for one, would not put up with spending a leisurely weekend staring at her dresses and coats. We are not of student-dig age anymore! The real insult is that all of these ”amenities” (necessities if you ask me) were and are still present in the un-renovated rooms on the lower floors, I was on a private trip, but still wanted to do some stuff, so I asked to change rooms, which was not a problem. But it would have been in the not too distant future. Accor Hotel management: PLEASE STOP AND THINK AGAIN, or this might not be the last review of this nature.

Der Empfang durch die Mitarbeitenden an der Reception war freundlich aber etwas chaotisch. Leider gab es auch Mitarbeitende an der Reception die eher genervt von Fragen waren und das auch deutlich gezeigt haben. Das Zimmern 208 ist ruhig aber sehr eng. Komischerweise ist das Bad im Verhältnis zum Zimmer groß und vollkommend ausreichend. Leider waren alle Silikonfugen stark verfärbt und zum Teil mit Schimmelanhaftungen versehen. Die Qualität der Zimmer- und Badreinigung war sehr abhängig vom Mitarbeitenden des Housekeepings. Die ersten zwei Tage waren trotz Reinigung noch Flecken von abgestellten Gläsern und Flaschen und undefinierbare Flecken auf den Abstellflächen im Bad und auf dem Schreibtisch. Die Qualität der Matratze war gut nur leider waren die Kissen nicht so gut. Der Service, jederzeit einen Kaffee oder andere warme Getränke im Frühstücksraum zu bekommen, ist eine nette Geste. Das Frühstück war in Ordnung ohne etwas besonderes zu sein. Die Parkplatzsituation ist durch das Hoteleigene Parkhaus mit einer Maximalhöhe der einzustellenden Fahrzeuge von 1,5 m herausfordernd.

Location - easy to find but lots of overflowing bins outside the annex which made the areas look less appealing. Staff - excellent, very helpful and pleasant. Room - we were in the annex. Obviously newer part of the hotel. Room comfortable, all the amenities for overnight stay. I cannot remember the room number but it started with 5. Enter building and the lift and look for the 5th floor, our room appeared to be in the 'basement', so after the shortest lift drop we arrive at our room, a mere 5 steps below ground level. We did have a view out but as the weather was threatening we didn't... Breakfast - super selection of fresh food. Decor of restaurant was a bit dated (same comment for hotel foyer). Clean. We took advantage of the parking - would've been slightly problematic with a 5m long Saab to access the garage, no problem for a Golf. Will go again, just hope the binmen have been.
