Nat 李凤临Cleaning ladies were demonstrating 53 days in front of the hotel when I arrived. The rotating door was covered with mud and confetti, while the black women danced to loud African beats. A complete shock! They continued during my stay…
The front desk was super helpful after I contacted their manager. My flight was delayed and I arrived a day late so they managed to modify my reservation without extra payment. My card didn’t work so I gave a cash deposit and they sent me an email when my suitcase that had been delayed arrived (so as not to wake me up).
The housekeeping was average- twice they didn’t restock the water. Once they forgot a cleaning chemical. Another time they didn’t restock the decaffeinated capsules. Also they could have been more generous with the toilet paper. It’s the very thin recycled one, that goes fast.
Breakfast was delicious and the restaurant spacious, with a garden overlooking the marina.
The room was large, modern and quiet, with an amazing view of the harbor, including both sunsets and sunrises! I even saw the incredible half an hour long fireworks for Bastille day right under my window!
The bed is big and comfortable, pillows a bit too soft, lighting is good but there are no toiletries (which was initially problematic due to the lost luggage).
Room service wasn’t available the only night that I wanted to order it - due to Bastille day celebrations.
The QR code don’t work on my phone so I had to call the reception to order. Also there was no alcoholic drinks listed, plus I had no fridge in the room, so I couldn’t fully relax and enjoy my holiday.
The hotel doesn’t have a spa, which is a shame. So I made a reservation online and got a massage in the Hammam spa a few minutes from the hotel)very expensive and not great). The closest one to the hotel was closed.
The pool is gorgeous but in another building which requires another elevator to be taken at the ground floor. A bit of a hassle…The gym is basic but good. Gets pretty busy and dirty at the end of the day.
There are many nice restaurants nearby and even a small Proxi shop. There is a bus stop 1min away, that goes to the Terrace du Port. And the taxi conveniently dropped me off right in front of the hotel.
The Mucem and Cosquer caves visible from the hotel, are a bit pleasant 25min walk away and the well worth the visit.
Overall, I was satisfied with my stay, and would come again if the above issues were resolved.

JulietteinautumnHotel has nice decorated hall, bar and private parking. Staff at the reception was polite and often did their best answering our requests, but sometimes they were more eager to explain us all the rules and cared not much.
Bar closed around 10 pm. It was not a restaurant, most of the dishes from menu were absent and there were not much to eat at all.
There were no bathrobe and slippers which is pretty not standard for 4 star hotel.
Breakfast was not good. Everyday was one sort of ham, sausages and scrambled eggs, croissants and yogurt with fruits. It always ended at 10. Not even longer on weekend.
Staff at the breakfast was so arrogant. I felt superfluous.
Cleaning was okey, but very chaotic, they always forgot black tea or towel or paper or etc. Always pushing reading lights into pillows - this is crazy.
Room, bed, pillows, bathroom, tea facilities were convenient. Nice pictures of Marseilles, nice colors of the furniture. A/c was good, but not the coldest, though we were in the hot period where it was 40 outside. Windows are not big, no balconies, so it is a little bit gloomy. Shower and wc worked good.
There was grocery shop just around the corner and shopping mall.
Hotel has strange location though everything seems close on the map, in fact we never walked even to the Old Port, because for us it was too much walking.
But it was convenient to use a car with private parking. This made our trip really good.

Pengguna TetamuWe stayed in Sofitel Marseille for 3 nights in the summer of 2023.
The hotel is located right on the periphery of the old port of Marseille where all the shops and restaurants are located. It takes about a 15-minute walk to get from the hotel all the way to the centre of the old port so the hotel is fairly insulated from the hustle and bustle of the old port. The exterior of the hotel looks a bit dated but the interiors feel very fresh, clean and bright.
We upgraded our room to a deluxe room facing the old port at the reception and we thought it was worth it. We never tired of waking up to a view of the old port with a clear blue sky. The room itself was quite clean and spacious. There was enough room to open up two luggages and still move around comfortably. There is also a turn down service where the staff will put out the bedroom slippers and play some nice Jazz music when you come back.
The bed was nice and comfortable and the pillows were fluffy. The only complaint we had was that the air conditioning would turn off in the middle of the night. The air conditioning control did not seem to work and it seems like the air conditioning is centrally controlled so the in-room controls did nothing. I could not sleep the first night as it was too warm and stuffy so we asked for a ventilateur (fan) the next day. That helped us to sleep better. Obviously, if you are planning to stay during the winter months then the heat at night should not be an issue.
The staff at the reception were always pleasant, warm, friendly and polite. We were upsold the room with a view when we checked in so that should say something about how friendly the staff were. It was EUR70 per night for the room with a view and it included overnight parking (EUR27 per night) so it was really only about EUR50 extra per night. The valet and the concierge were all very helpful and nice and they all speak English well enough.
If you intend to park here, do note that the roads within the hotel property can be quite narrow and the parking lots are quite narrow as well. It may be worthwhile getting the valet to help you park your car at least for the first day because driving from the car rental agencies at the Marseille train station to the hotel was stressful enough for us.
We paid around EUR300 - 350 a night but we thought it was worth it and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

This hotel has an absolutely amazing breakfast, it was included with the price we paid for our three nights of stay but one can pay ten euros per person per day for it. TOTALLY worth it, there were two hot food, we thought it was Continental Breakfast but there was so much food, we didn't even need to have lunch. There is this machine where you squeeze your own orange juice and it was FUN as you actually DIY!!! So many bread and croissants, pain au chocolat ... there was also organic milk, all local organic jams/spreads and a very nice espresso or coffee machine you can get hot chocolate and Cafe au Lait! You can make your own hard/medium/soft boiled egg! The service was great, the man at the front desk was very helpful and introduced me to places in the Marseille region that I can visit nearby. Room was small but I didn't come to Marseille to stay in a hotel room, water in the shower was hot and wifi works well! I will definitely stay here again next time I come to Marseille!!!

Pengguna TetamuThis article, detailing the £1.5 billion acquisition of the sandwich chain 'Bitesize' by the investment conglomerate 'ABC Holdings,' is more than just a fictional narrative. It serves as a brilliantly constructed and highly relevant case study that mirrors the real-world 2018 acquisition of Pret A Manger by JAB Holding Company. As an analytical tool, it excels in capturing the complexity and multi-layered nature of modern corporate strategy, making it an invaluable resource for students and professionals alike.
What the Article Does Well
The standout feature of this case study is its grounding in reality. By using a thinly-veiled parallel to a major, recent transaction, it immediately engages the reader with a sense of relevance and authenticity. The narrative successfully avoids being a dry recitation of facts and instead presents a compelling story of ambition, competition, and immense financial stakes.
Furthermore, the article excels in providing a 360-degree view of the transaction. It masterfully explores the motivations and outcomes for all key players:
The Acquirer (ABC): It clearly frames the deal not as an isolated purchase, but as a strategic chess move in a larger ”coffee war” against its primary rival, Nestlé.
The Seller (Link): It highlights the immense profitability of the deal for the private equity owner, showcasing a highly successful investment exit and illustrating the concept of realizing value.
The Target (Bitesize): It presents a balanced picture of a company with strong historical performance but facing significant contemporary challenges, such as international expansion doubts and post-Brexit staffing issues.
The Industry Rival (Nestlé): The inclusion of Nestlé's reactive, high-stakes deals (the Starbucks alliance and Blue Bottle acquisition) provides crucial context, demonstrating that M&A decisions are often made in a competitive vacuum.
As an educational tool, the case study seamlessly weaves in critical business concepts without feeling like a textbook. Readers are naturally introduced to valuation multiples (15x EBITDA), strategic exits (IPO vs. sale), debt-inclusive pricing, and the importance of a management team's ”proven track record.”
Areas for Improvement
While comprehensive in its strategic overview, the case could be enhanced for advanced learners by a deeper dive into the financial mechanics of the deal. The article mentions the £1.5bn price is ”inclusive of debt,” but a more detailed analysis of Bitesize's balance sheet, the structure of the financing used by ABC, or the potential synergies expected to justify the high valuation multiple would elevate it further.
Additionally, the direct strategic synergy between a ”coffee-focused” company (ABC/JAB) and a sandwich chain (Bitesize/Pret) could be more explicitly articulated. While implied, clearly stating that a significant portion of Pret's revenue comes from high-margin coffee sales in prime urban locations would instantly clarify why it was such an attractive target for a beverage conglomerate.
Conclusion
In summary, the 'ABC-Bitesize' case study is a brilliantly constructed piece of business analysis. It effectively uses a real-world scenario to teach complex lessons about corporate strategy, competitive dynamics, and the immense pressures of the global M&A landscape. It serves as a perfect snapshot of a high-stakes corporate chess match, making it a highly recommended read for anyone studying business, finance, or strategy. It is both an engaging story and a powerful learning instrument.

First time in Marseille. Fine to have stayed at this apartment but probably won't again.
I had to chase for the access instructions myself. Also annoying to have to go pick up the keys from Ibis (collection itself was quick), which is a 9-minute walk to the apartment. The fob worked but the 2 keys attached did not open any doors. Email instructions, while clear, were not entirely accurate - referring to going right when in fact I needed to find the apartment on the left.
Bit of drama one morning as I forgot my phone inside the apartment and had locked myself out. Had keys on me but the keys couldn't actually open the door, and of course I couldn't remember the super-secure 9-digit digital code! Only eventually managed to get in but asking a neighbour who thankfully was able to call the apartment manager. They should have given me working manual keys but never did.
Apartment itself was very clean. Lots of linen. Comfortable bedding in the bedroom as well as hidden under the sofa bed. Basic toiletries included. Washing machine worked. Heating was plenty sufficient. No dishwasher but not an issue as I did not cook much. (2 induction hob rings right against the wall which I didn't think was conducive to cooking anything more than the super basic, but fine for me this trip.)
Overall it was okay. Location super convenient, but I'd prefer somewhere quieter, where people and traffic noise wouldn't be so loud and go on after hours. Also somewhere without people relieving themselves next to large bins right outside the building's front door. Somewhere more pleasant...
