"Stayed here with my wife and our 2 grandchildren on 13th August for 1 night ,it was our first ever time staying at this hotel and although the location is excellent and from the first look of the hotel it looks amazing, the size,the architectural structure is stunning, the entrance is grand and once inside the lobby is huge with a big staircase in the middle. However after checking in at reception we took the lift to our room on the third floor, and for such a big hotel the lifts are way too small (supposed to fit up to 8 people, maybe 8 children but definitely not 8 adults). We had a family executive seaview room,fairly large sleeping area,1 double and 2 single beds and although the bathroom was modern, tiled from top to bottom, it had a bath with shower/tap combo instead of a walk-in shower area or cubicle, the room itself was very old fashioned and in need of an update, cracked and water marked ceiling and when I presumed the people in the room above ours were taking a shower the ceiling started leaking,dripping into the middle of the room wetting the carpet, we reported this one of the reception staff who just said they would visit the people in the room and see what was causing the leak ”probably using the shower with the curtain outside the bath” they said , we never heard anything back so it seemed like they didn't care. There is a nice large outside balcony seating area which would be nice to sit and have a drink over looking the beach and sea in the hot weather or on a warm night but on a night none of the outside lights worked so was very dark which was a shame. Breakfast options are very limited, sausage, bacon,eggs,beans ,fried tomatoes, toast and cereal . We didn't notice until the morning we left and I'm sort of glad we didn't but we found mice or rat droppings on the carpet,along the edges and in the corner of the room! Overall it's a shame as this hotel was probably amazing 30 - 40 years ago, needs a lot of updating to the rooms and just more general maintenance and TLC to to hotel could make it Grand again albeit very disappointed and will not be staying again unless it gets a complete renovation in the near future."

"This was the second time we stayed here. Lovely location. Not too far from York City Centre but far enough for serene environment. Taking a Uber to the Shambles costs about £6-7. Clean rooms."

"Nice hotel good location, great reception and balcony, however, pool and spa is an extra cost which wasnt apparent to us, the whole room could do with a bit more renovation if picky, and parking is a nightmare, with permits being £10 untill 1:30 next afternoon and thats if you can even get a space outside the hotel, good luck to you! Overall though a nice stay for 2 nights"

"We were very disappointed with the check-in experience. The hotel assigned us rooms in a wing where the air conditioning was not working. It appeared that the staff were already aware of the problem, as my friends and I seemed to be the only guests staying in that entire wing. Unfortunately, this happened during a heatwave, making the rooms unbearably hot and very uncomfortable. I had to walk back to reception to request a room change. The staff initially offered to bring us a fan and said the hotel was fully booked, but that was not an acceptable solution in such extreme temperatures. After I insisted, my friends and I were finally moved to rooms with working air conditioning. What made the situation even more confusing was that guests who checked in after us were assigned rooms on other floors with functioning air conditioning. That left us wondering why we had been placed in rooms with a known problem in the first place. Guests should never be checked into rooms with a major maintenance issue like this, especially during a heatwave. While we appreciated that the hotel eventually moved us, the whole experience left us with serious doubts about how room allocations were handled —- is it because i booked via Trip.com ?"

"Great experience throughout our stay. Barry was the person on reception to check us in and was very helpful throughout our stay. The room was great, very functional in all respects. The included breakfast had great variety (see photos). Great hotel, I hope to stay here again"

"We were booking for 2 nights. Our room is allocated on 2nd floor and the staff help us with our luggages. Our room is okay and it was so hot. AC is not working. We reported and the staff was trying to reset but AC still not working. We were given a fan, and it was so hot like oven. Windows are all locked. It was a terrible night and we could not sleep. Lucky the next morning, we were given another room with working AC. This hotel should not sell service for room with broken AC."

"Place was easy to find and just a 10 min walk to tge town centre. Car park was £8 for 24 hours parking in blue bays. Room was as per any other premier in. Only gripe room we was in heard what sounded like air con/water pipes squeaking thru the night"

"We stayed here for a wedding. The room itself was prefect. (Family room) Large bathroom and very spacious bedroom area. We had a mini fridge with water and milk in, tea coffee facilities etc. iron, hairdryer. Unfortunately we didn’t think the beds or pillows were very comfy. Very large bed but it was 2 beds put together and me and my partner could feel the gap between the beds! Not what we expected. The venue is absolutely stunning! We had the best time. All staff were friendly polite and welcoming. The food was excellent. We had pork/chicken/beef over 2 courses then a cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely delicious!"

"Very clean hotel although we arrived the hotel at 11pm and we still managed to get inside. Very big room and have all you need to be use when I stay there. Lovely hotel"
