Just spent a wonderful five nights at the Anyu Hotel in Dali in November, this beautifully appointed boutique hotel was so charming. From the warm lights, to the rich hardwood floors, ceilings, and furniture to all the thoughtful accents in the room and common areas, it felt like a charming and cozy home away from home. Hotel location is fantastic, just steps away from the Dali Ancient Town, so everything from cafes, top restaurants, pharmacies, markets, bars, and hundreds of other stores and outdoor vendors are just a 2-10 minute walk away, no need to sit in traffic or call a car to get around. Bed and pillows very comfortable, showerhead very powerful so makes for a very luxurious shower. However, the best thing about the hotel is their warm and caring staff. Nancy, one of the cleaning staff, was always super helpful and attentive and delightful to chat with, and was also kind enough to give us some great recommendations on places to visit which we ended up enjoying very much. Anna was also very nice to interact with, her gentle and pleasant demeanor and thoughtful words always made it a pleasure to see her. Candy was wonderful as well, always making sure we were attended to and ended up making some great recommendations on places to eat nearby. Her warm smile and kind demeanor will be remembered. Finally, it was Vivian who we owe a deep debt of gratitude to. On the first day, my 84-year old Mom came down with an illness which included all sorts of symptoms. Vivian went out of her way to call a car and she accompanied us to the nearest hospital where she helped us fill out all the necessary paperwork and stayed by Mom's side for over an hour as we waited to see a doctor. Medication was prescribed and she called another car to take us back to the hotel while she went to a nearby pharmacy to pick up the medication for us which she then brought back to the hotel. By then it was well into the night and she had even taken us to the hospital when she was already off work, so this was all on her own time. My Mom ended up making a recovery in large part to Vivian's quick and incredibly kind actions. She really went above and beyond and we are just so grateful to her and Anyu Hotel for helping to save my Mom. Vivian was also an absolute pleasure to talk to as she always came over to greet us and chat everyday during our stay. Her warm smile, cheerful disposition, and charismatic yet humble personality always made every interaction a real pleasure. The hospitality we experienced from her will never be forgotten and feel very fortunate to have met someone with such a kind heart and also very high EQ and dedication. We know if we had stayed at a different hotel there is no way we would have experienced this level of hospitality so we are deeply appreciative for Vivian and the entire staff at Anyu for making our trip one that won't be forgotten.

I traveled through four cities, staying at seven different hotels, but what stayed with me after the trip wasn’t the luxurious rooms or high-end amenities. The most profound impression came from a small hotel in Lijiang, where the staff worked quietly, without fanfare or extravagance, but with a sincerity that touched my heart. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I felt something different. It wasn’t the smooth greetings in foreign languages or gestures learned from hospitality manuals. It was the way they looked at me—with genuine concern, not trying to sell a service but making me feel welcomed. Language wasn’t a barrier because there was a closeness between us, simple yet deeply meaningful. I remember one early morning, as everything was still asleep, I stood on the balcony and looked down at the small garden. Below, a staff member was meticulously wiping each leaf, each plant, as if each leaf held its own life. That simple act, in the quiet of the morning, made me realize that when someone pours their heart into their work, even the smallest task becomes meaningful. After experiencing the space and service here, I began to imagine what the owner of this hotel must be like. Perhaps he is a perfectionist, meticulous, dedicated, and thoughtful. If given the chance, I would love to meet him and learn from his experience. How is it that he only visits the hotel once a year, yet everything remains so flawless? The way every corner of the hotel reflects care and attention mirrors the personality of someone who is attentive to every detail. Perhaps that’s what makes this hotel different. They don’t strive to please the guests too hard, nor do they go overboard in showcasing excellent service. They let their sincerity naturally and invisibly touch the guests’ emotions. And from there, satisfaction naturally follows—effortlessly, without needing to be advertised. Through this trip, I realized that in the service industry, it’s not a race to compete on price or luxury. What customers remember isn’t the soft bed or the sumptuous breakfast, but how they were treated and how much care was given. Everything starts with the simplest things—a glance, a smile, or even wiping a leaf in the garden in the early morning. While many other places focus on selling services, this small hotel in Lijiang has taken a different path. They don’t try to sell; they let the experience sell itself. And when that experience comes from true dedication, customers will remember it forever, because what comes from the heart always lingers the longest.

Beautiful hotel. Very comfortable room and the bed was amazing. Perfect as a solo traveller. Good range of breakfast choices and very helpful dining room staff. Communicated through messaging and translator app. Cara Yu the lobby manager was very helpful. Jack Huang in the restaurant explained all the food choices on offer and explained the specials. His English was very good. Pool area beautiful and the water was clean. Whole area is well maintained and pool staff were helpful and polite. Did not use the hotel bar but made use of room service, which was prompt.

I cannot recommend Sunyata Homestay in Dali enough! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was more than just a place to stay—it was an experience of genuine warmth and care. The rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable, providing a serene escape after long days of exploring. The afternoon tea and breakfast they served were nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve stayed in multiple 4-5 star hotels across China over the past month, but the gourmet food here easily surpassed them all. Every bite was thoughtfully prepared, leaving me in awe of the flavors and quality. The location of Sunyata Homestay is also perfect. It’s just far enough from the bustling crowds to remain peaceful and quiet, yet close enough to Dali Ancient City that it’s only a few steps away from great eateries and the heart of the ancient town. The balance is ideal for anyone seeking convenience without sacrificing tranquility. A special shout-out to the young lady working in the coffee shop up front—her coffee is unparalleled! My husband, who is a daily coffee drinker and rarely impressed, couldn’t stop raving about her brews. It was, hands down, the best coffee we had during our travels. The staff here deserve every bit of praise. They were attentive, accommodating, and genuinely cared about making our stay memorable. However, what truly sets Sunyata apart is the incredible owner. My father had a bad accident in Dali on a rainy day, and I can honestly say I don’t know what I would have done without his support. Despite my limited Mandarin, he spent an entire day accompanying me to the hospital, ensuring we were well cared for and understood. The next day, he went out of his way to pick up the CT scans for us. His kindness and compassion left me speechless. The owner’s dedication to his guests is reflected in his amazing team, all of whom go above and beyond. Without his help, I would have had to cut my trip to China short. Instead, he turned a difficult situation into one where we felt supported and cared for like family. Sunyata Homestay is truly one of a kind, and I will forever be grateful for their hospitality. This is not just a place to stay; it’s a haven of comfort, care, and culinary delights. Thank you, Sunyata, for everything!

Our experience at Pullman Dali was a mix of highs and lows, with some exceptional staff and several areas that fell short of expectations for an Accor hotel. The Good: We were fortunate to receive excellent service from Ms. Eleven and Mr. Herman, who went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay. Their kindness and attentiveness, especially when our child fell sick during the stay, were truly commendable. They provided all the assistance we needed, making a challenging situation much more manageable. Additionally, the café staff member, Mona, stood out for her patience and friendly attitude. The Not-So-Good: Unfortunately, the overall experience did not meet the standards we expect from an Accor hotel. Communication was a significant challenge, as many of the local staff struggled with English, making it difficult to get basic information or assistance. The hotel seems to cater primarily to local Chinese guests, which greatly influenced the atmosphere. The breakfast area was chaotic and crowded, and the variety and taste of the food left much to be desired. While Mona was polite and helpful, other staff displayed a dismissive and arrogant attitude. For instance, when we inquired about some of the local breakfast items, the response was abrupt and unwelcoming, as if they didn’t care whether we ate or not. Additionally, breakfast ended strictly at 10:30 AM. While I was still taking food from the buffet, the staff turned off the lights and removed the trays right in front of me without any warning. It felt extremely inconsiderate and left a poor impression. Other Observations: The location of the hotel is convenient, and the rooms are decent. However, the overall experience may be more suited to local Chinese guests rather than international travelers expecting global standards of service and hospitality. Final Thoughts: While there were shining moments thanks to a few outstanding staff members, the overall experience at Pullman Dali did not live up to the reputation of the Accor brand. If you are an international guest seeking a more service-oriented stay, you might want to consider other options.

Super love the ancient 古镇 feel of this hotel room, and its proximity and link through a back door to Lijiang Ancient Town. Service is excellent where the hotel staff delivered medicine and other amenities request where required. Breakfast is excellent too. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Lijiang!

來到雲南的第一站,落地麗江,我第一個決定下來的酒店/民宿就是泊心~ 很順利的到達古城,店長小姐姐和推着三輪的阿叔來大門口接我們,不平坦的石板路並沒有讓我們的旅途開端變得辛苦,反而是小姐姐對於沿途和古城的講解,讓我們快速融入了。 迎接我們的是美麗的院落、熱情的家人、温熱的梨湯、自製的點心以及特產鮮花餅。麗江對比廈門確實乾燥不少,梨湯真的潤到肺裏了~以至於晚上游完回來我們又申請了續碗哈哈哈😂 因為是淡季來的,房間幫我們做了升級,“程海”是我們這次入住的房間。在房中看院落水系,非常乾淨整潔,用品也讓我每每感到貼心,很多東西都幫我備好了,直呼白帶了。😄 最讓人驚喜的還是泊心專屬用品,不論是亞麻拖鞋(可惡我忘記帶走了😭)還是清洗乾淨一次性的竹纖維浴巾毛巾,亦或是桃木梳,都彷彿在家一般讓人安心又舒心。床上用品也是非常舒適,一夜安眠(要不是操心一大早要出發去玉龍雪山的話可以睡到十二點!)🥰 除此之外,泡澡用品,浴袍等等,處處會讓你感受到泊心的貼心。 我還會回來的,把我的小腰果帶來折騰一下管家小姐姐們。🤭一次美好的入住體驗,謝謝dear all

The hotel is located 1 km from the ancient town and is a 10-15 minute drive to the train station. The room was comfortable, and the water pressure and heater worked perfectly. The Wi-Fi was very stable as well. (For foreigners, do bear in mind, if you connect to hotel wifi, you would need to connect to VPN in order to use WhatsApp, IG or Youtube) This is a 9-year-old property, so there are some flaws that can be improved, but that is understandable. My only feedback is about the F&B restaurant; they only have one all-day dining option. Breakfast was alright, with more of a local selection. I stayed for two nights. On the first day, there was staff available to help me and serve my cafe latte order. However, on the second day, I did not see any staff on standby, so I had to make my own cafe latte (I had to froth the milk), which I found awkward. I wish the staff were more well trained, but I understand it is low season and the hotel probably hired part-timers for service. The best highlight of my stay was meeting a lady named Rose He, who is part of the guest services team (i think). She made recommendations on where to go and even found us a local driver to take us around. She was extremely kind and polite. We exchanged WeChat information, and she texted me when the weather turned cold or rainy. She also helped us to arrange complimentary transportation to the train station. It felt personalized. Shangri-La, if you are reading this, I believe she deserves a token of appreciation. She is the true star and a great example of “hospitality.” Overall, we were happy with our stay. Thank you.
Lakeview Hotel Yulongwan Kunming

Hello everyone. We stayed at this hotel at the end of November 2024. Initially, we booked the hotel for 5 days, then we extended, extended and in the end, we stayed there for 11 nights. The hotel is new, clean. The rooms have good quality robes, toiletries. We were quite satisfied with the breakfasts. We were pleased with the availability of freshly squeezed juices. The main staff does not speak English, but this is not a problem, since the on-line translator saves us, and the staff tries very hard to understand what you want from them. The only person who speaks excellent English was the manager Sam. A man passionate about his work. He told us a lot about the hotel and what is nearby. And there is a lot there: a park with playgrounds, a bungee jump, and a birdhouse with parrots. Sam showed us a place next to the hotel, which is a set for films. Boat station, where you can take a boat and take a walk on the lake and go straight to the hotel grounds. The hotel itself is in a great location, in a lowland, on the shore of the lake. If you plan a trip to Kunming, then it is far from the city. But we needed a quiet and beautiful place. And we got it. With the window open in the evenings and mornings you can hear the fish splashing in the lake and the ducks quacking. It was great to sleep, as the mattress and pillows are of excellent quality. We will definitely come back here and will recommend it to our friends. P.S. Once again, we say a huge thank you to Sam, he not only told and showed us a lot about the hotel and the surrounding area, he also helped us solve some issues with our luggage at the airport. A wonderful, responsive person. The hotel management is very lucky to have such a person on their team.

Fantastic location. The room we got was superbly well designed with a view of Meili mountains from the bed. Room amenities felt luxurious and expensive - from the bath robes, the b&o speaker to the minibar beverages. Really loved the indoor onsen/bath fixture which really felt like a treat. The hotel surroundings were also beautiful and well designed to maximise the view of the Meili mountains. Only complaint is the initial front desk/reception service which felt a little haphazard. Apparently the room I booked wasn’t available that day and the reception tried to offer us another room that was supposedly of the same price but had a poorer layout and view. I think great service would have been to offer a better room (which was available since we then requested an upgrade which we paid for). Also, there was bellboy/butler to receive us when we first reached the hotel.
