PPengguna TetamuOur stay at Shukubo Gokui was incredible. So much history and spirit, and although we spoke very little Japanese we were greeted warmly by the family. Every breakfast and dinner served was so thoughtfully presented and delicious. The onsite bath is very clean and almost like a private onsen. The room was warm and comfortable, and it was magical to be in the space with the winter snow piling outside. The location cannot be any better, very near the beautiful Chusha Shrine, on the path to the other shrines in Togakushi, within walking distance to the town Onsen and ski resort, and probably one of the closest lodgings to the bus stop. The original structure is from 1815 with thoughtful updates to make the space comfortable and warm. That foreigners and visitors are allowed to stay at Shokubo Gokui that has been so thoughtfully cared for by the family for years is incredibly special, an experience we will remember for a long time. I hope we can return again.

KKathy24I chose to stay for two nights at Hotel NewNagano Next because of its very convenient location. Nagano station is just a few hundred meters away and there are a lot of food options (both restaurants and konbinis) in the area. On our checkout day, we left our luggage temporarily inside the free lockers in the hotel lobby before visiting Matsumoto Castle. We just came back to claim our luggage in the afternoon before leaving for Tokyo.

WWilliamgray81This was a last minute selection on the train from Tokyo, but the right one. It's a short 5 minute walk from the Nagano station and has spacious rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful, but best of all, on arrival you are given a welcome drink and dessert of your choice. The entire place seems to be obsessed with desserts, to my liking. They also provides free ice cream and upon check out, bags of candy and cookies. Maybe it's a Christmas promotion, but a welcome surprise. The breakfast is a bit expensive, but has a nice selection of food choices, including salmon, more desserts, and various Japanese food. I only stayed one night, but I believe they have an onsen and other amenities. Well worth it. I stayed in other hotels in Nagano, and this one was superior.

Service was excellent 👍 staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Amenities were also complete and comfortable. Would definitely recommend for couples looking for a smooth and enjoyable stay.

PPengguna Tetamui loved the onsen on second floor so much as it was just what i needed after a long day of exploration. the room was clean and location was so convenient since it’s right across from nagano station. i would stay here again definitely!

KKs TamThe location is great and it is well maintained. I stayed in the 4 beds female dorm, it was spacious. The bed was big with a little desk at one side of the bed for organising personal items. Each bed has their own charging pod. There are some limitations though: the lift can't be used so suitcases are moved up via staircase. I have to go down to the 2nd floor for the bathroom and toilet. I am not sure how many people are sharing them but I never need to wait an they are clean.

WWei LeThis place is ~5mins walk from Zenkoji temple. neighborhood is peaceful at night.
Shoes to be removed outside the accommodation. Rooms are on the 2nd floor so you'll have to carry your luggage up (there's no lift).
Room (with window) is huge. You'll have to head downstairs to use the shared toilet and shared onsen (no toilet inside the room).
We were only allowed 30mins of onsen time for 2 pax - couples weren't allowed to use the onsen concurrently so we had to go one after another (i'm not sure if the instructions got lost in translation..). Felt very rushed so i didnt really get to enjoy the onsen experience, but overall was nice and clean.
Interesting 6.30am tour around the area and within the temple itself, followed by a simple vegetarian breakfast (porridge with omakase-styled sides with miso soup) back at the accommodation. The morning tour lasted from 6.30am - 8.30am.
The accommodation provided a fleece blanket to each pax to bring to Zenkoji temple to keep us warm during the morning praying ceremony. We went on 30 Dec and it was SO COLD.
Overall interesting experience but accommodation price is pretty steep IMO.

SSvetaLThe hotel is really well situated, less than 10 minutes from the JR station, and on the same street as the Shrine, so there were lots of places to eat nearby. I stayed in a dorm, which had more people than I expected for a room (I think I saw at least 60 bed/lockers) so it was quite loud even at night as people kept walking in and out. The actual bed was fine, and the people at the front took their time to walk me through what to know for the hostel. The lounge is a little awkwardly partitioned, but at least you get a space to use if you need food.
The dorm itself, I think has a little too many people to be comfortable but is clean enough. The lights never turn off, but because you have a curtain, it blocks out most of it. The largest issue is the noise, since people are coming in and out at random times of the night, and the buttons to open the door are also quite loud when you're trying to sleep. If you want ear plugs, they have them for a fee at the front. Nagano overall was very nice though, and the location made it a lot easier to get around.

PPengguna Tanpa NamaVery good location, just opposite the train station. Reception is on level 2, but staff is helpful to help carry luggages to and fro ground floor.
Room is small and toilet is squeezy, but still decent for a short stay. There is a Shampoo Bar at the reception to pick up stoiletries.
Breakfast is good, the complimentary soba noodles on selected weekday nights is also great. Nice view from the 10th floor, and also free space for customers to chill during the day.
Water was not provided complimentary to customers but instead was earned through a game.
