I've stayed here before: the rooms have now been upgraded and modernised and are now quite stylish. There is also a new reception area. The hotel retains its charm. The staff are friendly, polite and helpful. Breakfast is ok if a bit limited. But it is at breakfast where things could be improved: they tend to run out of things, drinking water, even plates etc. and they are not replenished quickly enough. Also I would suggest they keep at the small buffet area some juice and coffee which you can top up from when you need it.

Great breakfast, Mr. Phat and Staff were extremely efficient and always helpful. Pool keep keep DAILY, which was especially refreshing. Noise levels were respected and rooms were clean. Shortage of soap in showers but moving to another before other were replenished wasn’t too difficult.

Love the room. The location is super convenient. It is right on the walking street where there is night market and food stalls. Good restaurants and cafe are near by. Famous tourist spots are in walking distance. Breakfast was ok. There are some options to choose from western, Chinese and local Laos. We were able to join traditional morning food offering to monks which is right in front of our hotel entrance.

Let me first say that we enjoyed our stay and absolutely loved the location. The negative would be that the photos online were drastically nicer than the actual appearance, so initially it was a bit of a disappointment. Once the initial shock went away, we really enjoyed our stay here. It was just near the river and several nice coffee shops and about a 5 minute walk from the main tourist street. It was quiet and they had breakfast every morning, though it was the same pre-made plate each day. I'd recommend staying here, just know the photos aren't totally accurate.

The location is perfect - I had a room with the river view and it was quite special. The staff is very nice and helpful. The only downside - you can hear clearly what’s happening in the rooms next to you and it can be disturbing.

Breakfast menu are great i recommend the fried noodle and omelette with bread. All the staff are nice especially the front desk guy who the only one who fluent in english rather than other staff, the room is spacious, and the bathroom is clean too. The distance between hotel to cafe or restaurant nearby is not that far, only 10 - 15 minutes walking to the area. I recommend to rent motorcycle or bike if don’t want to walk

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Wanika during our trip to Luang Prabang, and it honestly exceeded our expectations.
Firstly, we were pleasantly surprised with a free room upgrade, which was such a thoughtful gesture and a great start to our stay. The upgraded room came with a beautiful private balcony, which quickly became our favorite spot. Sitting there in the morning with coffee and in the evening after exploring the town felt incredibly peaceful.
The location is perfect, close to the night market and main attractions, yet tucked away in a quiet lane so you can truly relax. It’s the best of both worlds.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The bed was cozy, air conditioning worked perfectly (a lifesaver in the Laos heat), and everything felt warm and welcoming.
The staff were kind, friendly, and always ready to help with a smile. Their hospitality genuinely made the experience even better.
If you're looking for a comfortable, peaceful, and value-for-money stay in Luang Prabang, Villa Wanika is definitely a great choice. The free upgrade and balcony made it even more special for us. Would absolutely stay here again!

The hotel is great! The staff were kind and helpful. The location was superb! We loved that we can just walk from there to everywhere in luang. Breakfast was ok tho, its not in the main hotel and you have to walk around and eat beside mekong river which was a good thing by the way, but the food were all the same. Other than that everything was great!

Despite it is a historic building built over 100 years ago, the renovation keeps the old charm Fresh Colonial style with a touch of modernism managed by Swiss administration. The room itself is new and spacious with super nice interior and decoration. The hotel is rather small though without other facility like swimming pool. That might be a reason that the price is really good. I recommend staying on the 2nd floor because it can avoid some noises from the street during early morning. I stayed on the ground floor and did not realize there is solid doors at the balcony that I could close to avoid noise and light from the street, so I had a bad first night. And the location is great. It is close to the main walking street and the river.

Some switches has seen better days, switching on / off lights can be confusing, need to try a couple of times to get the right one. NNuytsiaFloribundaOur stay had a lot of high points and a lot of low points.
Starting with the high points, the grounds and room were incredible. Our experience at the spa was one of the best we’ve had. The cocktails and Laos-style burger we had for lunch one day were phenomenal. The staff were charming and very accommodating.
However, there were a few aspects that were far below the experience expected of a 5 star hotel. First, cocktail service around the pool was abysmal. On almost every occasion we had to go searching for a staff member to take our order, and then the cocktails more often than not took more than half an hour to arrive. This is despite the fact that we seemed to be the only people ordering F&B at that time, i.e. they were not busy at all.
Second, the breakfast was a disappointment every day - we were told we could order eggs or noodles, and had to repeatedly press the staff to find out what type of eggs and noodles, and we only discovered on the last day that there was a menu with additional options. We ordered poached eggs on toast, and the eggs had not been drained of excess liquid, and the bread was entirely soaked through. An order of waffles took over an hour to come out - first it was delivered as a pancakes, and then they just forgot about it despite repeated follow ups. The “local” Laos options lacked flavor - very little of the herbs and spice that makes Laos food great. I think this and the pool service issue are primarily the result of a lack of training and instruction for staff - they were clearly doing their best, but did not know what to do.
Third, the pool area needs a lot more spent on maintenance. The decking is cracking and falling apart. The mosaic tiles in the pool are falling apart, A LOT of the tiles are missing, and I got a very large laceration on my forearm from the sharp edge of a tile sticking out. If this pool were in a western jurisdiction, it would not meet health and safety standards.
Fourth, the gym was not worth visiting if you want to lift weights. Possibly the worst weights offering I’ve seen for a hotel of that price and with that much space.
We want to reiterate how great and enthusiastic the staff were. I think this is primarily a management oversight, training, and maintenance capex issue.

La couette et le matelas sont supers, la douche est fonctionnelle et l’eau chaude! Mais le plus incroyable reste l’équipe des lieux, un véritable bonheur chaque jour, attentionnée, serviable, présente!! Mention spéciale pour Tom, le réceptionniste de nuit, un adorable jeune homme!! Receptionist barely spoke a word of English, didn't know we had a reservation, didn't know it was pre paid, had to call his boss on then phone to speak English to me to check us in. Room has coffee cups but no kettle, no coffee or tea. Under the cups was mould and dust. Old soap bar and toothbrush at the back of the sink. Asked for toilet paper and got told it was being ordered and would arrive the next day, next day we got nothing. Had to constantly ask for toilet paper and tissues. When we asked to change the towels we were handed a bundle of towels from the floor that were not even folded. The courtyard was messy with open Garbage bags around. The room was generally ok and the beds ok. The shower was good with plenty of very hot water. The lady receptionist and the man were both friendly and tried to help but basically had to call their boss on the phone to do absolutely anything and they were not really able to help with things. We asked about a possible late check out and were advised if we tipped the housekeeper we could stay until about 1:30 as the housekeeper goes home at 2pm and has about 12 rooms to clean that day. We checked out at the checl out time of 11:30 and the house keepers went straight to our room to clean it. Surely if the other 12 rooms all checked out at check out time they woul be cleaning those rooms? And how much do you tip? It was very ambiguous and they said they didn't want to end up charging us if we checked out late. It really seemed like - if you want to check out late then you need to pay our staff for staying longer, we would have been happy to pay an agreed amount but to leave a tip and not suggest an amount was not very clear.
It amazes me how this place gets such a good score. The location is good, there are nice restaurants nearby but the service is poor.
