Location -
Very good. Opposite Niigata Station, exit from Bandai Square. There is a Lawson opposite (Station side), and a 7 eleven next to the hotel. Located right along an entire street of food. Don Quijote is a 7 min walk away.
Room -
Huge, clean, comfortable. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Lighting was a bit rigid and oddly placed, but not a big deal. Housekeeping does a great job.
Front Desk Service -
Queues on weekends are very long. Check in took 15 to 20 mins on a Saturday. Staff did their best to speed up the process by getting guests to fill up the information cards while waiting.
Staff don't interact or smile much. They can't speak English so you need Google Translate. They had 1 foreign staff on duty (who I assume can speak English on, as her colleague after struggling for so long to understand, turned to ask her before she helped). If not, she just stood there quietly, without offering any help of assistance, even though she immediately knew what we were asking for.
Amenities -
They don't provide the standard cotton wool and buds, have to purchase at extra cost.
There is green tea and coffee sachets provided for you to take in the lobby, as well as ear plugs.
Wi-Fi connection -
Strong connection, but a little spotty as connection will drop randomly.
Onsen/Lounge -
Very small, very crowded. While I was there, only 3 or 4 hair dryers, and all were being used by guests who were hogging it for over an hour as they were applying face masks, etc, so most people left with their hair wet. Weekends are definitely a lot more crowded, so avoid weekends if you can.
There's also a lounge area with 3 massage chairs, books, vending machine and big sitting area on the same floor.
Overall -
Great and enjoyable stay. Will stay again if we are in Niigata.
I misplaced my gloves some where at a town I was visiting. The hotel staff were very helpful to help me call these places that I visited to check if they can find my gloves.
Despite the language barrier, they were very proactive in their assistance and help. I cannot help but feel the famous Japanese hospitality from their services.
They have an in house restaurant that served local dishes that you must try in Niigata, their service were also very polite and welcoming. I felt extremely comfortable with my stay in the hotel because of their attention to service.
Great view, staff incredibly nice, rooms are well maintained. Noise can easily sneak through the walls/doors if others are staying around you, and our room was incredibly hot even if using the air conditioning. So if you're sensitive to temperature maybe watch out.
The Art Hotel Niigata Station's location is very ideal. It has a sheltered link way to the Train Station. There are also many shops around the area.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and big. Definitely worth revisiting.
good stay overall. Located near both to the Niggata station and Bandai bridge, it is a standard Japanese business hotel. It's a bit worn down, especially the room carpets and walls. Also sone amenities like coffee or tea are not available in your room, need to go down to the 2nd floor. Not practical. They also operate a no-clean policy during your stay, they just hand your towels on your door.
Great location, within 5mins walking distance from Niigata station. There are nearby convenience stores. The place also seemed to be recently renovated and is well maintained. Staff service was good. affordable breakfast buffet option is also available. The food was very good, the locally sourced rice is excellent.
The hotel is atmosphere with a nice blend of the old and new. It is located not too far from Uonuma no Sato and have a complimentary shuttle service to and fro Hatago Isen opposite Echigo Yuzawa Station. The room is big and there is nice heated table area. The bathroom is nice but as with traditional lodgings such as this, it can be pretty cold especially at the bathroom area in winter.
Dinner was served in a bento format at our room. I was a little disappointed that it is a not a proper sit-down meal at the main dining area instead. The bento includes two generously sized onigiri, appetizers, and four main items including a meat patty, grilled fish and braised wagyu.
The onsen bath is also quite nice and loved the bath with the snowy landscaped garden.
Service is generally good and there are snacks and drinks available at the lounge for guests. In the evening, there is also sake and umeshu available for guests.
Check in and out is fast. Being part of JR Train Group gave it immediate accessibility in same building in 2 to 4 minutes. Hotel lobby 3rd floor is same floor with JR entrance.
Besides Seven Eleven store and about 40 meters distance walking to Yoshinoya.
Many food shops around South ,West,East entrance.
Bic Camera just across street.
Room is ok with bath separated from toilet.
The room was excellent, although I will say it followed the usual Japanese hotel style with smaller rooms. There was, however, more than enough room for my husband and I. The bathroom was fabulous and everything was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when it came to issues with the snow. The location is fairly central and in a really cute area with a train station very close.

Very Good
Amazing resort, felt like something out of a Christmas movie. Very friendly and helpful staff who speak very good English as well. Not a lot to do during the day if you aren’t out on the slopes though.
Even my small requests were met. 🙇♂️ Everyone was so kind and helpful, I'm so grateful! It was a facility I'd love to stay at again. Thank you so much.
An unforgettable stay at Ryugon. Everything was exceptional - from the beautiful traditional rooms to the peaceful onsen and stunning surroundings. The kaiseki meals were thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious, showcasing local flavours at their best. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout our stay. A perfect blend of luxury, tradition, and relaxation. Truly special and well worth the experience.
It is very close to JR Niigata station. The staff handled check-in with hospitality. The facilities were maintained well with neatness and cleanliness. Although I booked the smallest room, the room still has enough space for opening the luggage fully.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel provides a shuttle bus from Echigo Yuzawa station therefore it is very convenient via Shinkansen from Tokyo. I do like the room design, it felt showa-era Japanese with a mix of western scifi at the same time, kinda like the film space odyssey. The receptionist was very kind and gave us discounts for ski lifts. Ski lockers were included so we could keep all our gear downstairs. There are many restaurants to choose from, best meal was the steak paella with the option to add extra meat at Edelweiss. Breakfast view from Kiyotsu restaurant was majestic, got to see the early birds ski while enjoying our meal. We were at the slopes pretty much from the morning until after the sun sets because there was night ski! After a whole day of skiing, resting at the outdoor onsen overlooking the snow garden was surreal, all the pains and aches just disappeared. To end the night, we watched the fireworks display from our room. We went to Naeba to ski but received far more than I expected. Thanks to all thestaff for the wonderful experience. We will be back soon and already planning a return.
Exit at east exit from train station Walk straight ..owner very nice . Can use laundry after asking him . Onsen at 2/F. Can lock up for private use. Family mart nearby
Just a short walk from the train station, this place has a fantastic location. The staff are super friendly, and the rooms are clean and spacious. The hot springs are a real highlight, with both indoor and outdoor options to enjoy. Perfect for a relaxing and authentic Japanese stay—highly recommended!
My wife and I have had a 3-night stay at this Toyoko Inn Joetsu Myok Eli Nishi Gucci Room #1306 from 13 to 16 October 2025. The Hotel is just a 1-minute walk away from the Joetsumyoko Station. Similar to other Toyoko Inns, the modest reception is on the First Floor and it has limited parking lots on besides the Hotel, and also a bigger open car park about a 2-minute walk away. So we are grateful and thankful that we were given a lot for just ¥300 per day for 3 days at the open car park very nearby. The Hotel staff are polite and helpful, and are not quite able to communicate in simple English. As the Hotel is located quite away from the city centre of this very small city, so there is no shopping centre nearby except a few eateries are near the Station and within comfortable walking distance. The hotel room is the standard typical type whereby it is small but very clean. The bed and pillows are comfortable for our liking, and the small bathroom - again the typical Japanese type - is clean and its has strong water pressure for a comfortable shower. Like all Toyoko Inns, the Hotel provides daily breakfast of simple home cook styles; varieties are limited, but it is very comforting that gives a nice start for the day. Also, it offers free coffee and tea via machines 24 hours daily. At SGD S$97 per night with breakfast, we find it value for money and we will choose to stay here if we travel to Joetsu or Myoko again.
VERY large and spacious room (twin room) for Japan! Approximately a 10minute walk to akakura kanko resort and 15 to akakura onsen. The toilets were clean and ample for shared toilets and the showers were warm and good pressure - although the shower hose on the wall wouldn’t sit comfortably so it was a hand held shower. Breakfast was ok, however if I was paying for it I would have been so disappointed ! Very minimal. Having read previous reviews I was expecting amazing service however the service received was quite average. We were originally meant to get there at 8:30pm by train, at 8pm I called and told them we will now get there at 10pm. They said ok see you tomorrow morning, breakfast at 7:30. I asked how we were to get to the place and they said taxi (mind you myoko Kogen train station is a ghost town). They then said breakfast at 7:30 see you then. I asked what room were in, how we get in etc and there was a huge language barrier (just kept responding with see you tomorrow) . The person ended up coming to the station (to our surprise) then said they had been waiting there for 2 hours despite us having called at 8pm and spoken to them specifically. A lot of confusion. They did drop each guest off at the resort of their choice each morning as well as to the train or bus station at the end of their stay, this was a nice touch which is common and needed for myoko.
Room was spacious. But overall hotel is old and certain parts of it felt like stepping into North korea. But it was quaint and suited the old town vibes. Hotel provided free shuttle from echigo yuzawa station. Room only had Japanese tea cups and no spoons. Parts of the room had cobwebs and similarly at the onsen. They charged a 150 yen per person per day for onsen regardless if utilised or not. And this charge was not told to us through trip.com or during check in. Staff did not understand English at all. We had to use translator to communicate. The free dinner provided was nice for the first night then it became meh. And they strictly prohibited guests to bring own drinks to dinner as they had a drink menu. 350 yen + tax for a glass of coke. Staff were polite and nice.
