Long term visitors to this 4 star hotel in Dumfries and Galloway. Recent reviews have not been complimentary so we were a bit apprehensive visiting again for the first time since 2022.The main issues recently have focused on the food quality and service. The hotel itself is largely unchanged and while a little dated is clean,comfortable and value for money. We met the new head chef who has just recently started and we were encouraged that the trajectory is now heading in the right direction. We had an excellent dinner on our second evening and were impressed by the passion and commitment of the new chef.We will return again next year.

Just home after the loveliest experience! Just a hop, skip and a jump from Dalscone Farm, (under 30 min safe walk on pavement all the way) which was my destination for several days... and best breakfast ever to start my days! And Hamilton House is a lovely leisurely walk to the River Nith, where I got fish and chips to bring back to my room. Thank you Rena and Derek for making me feel so very welcome... and for putting me in touch with Mark at DumfriesTours who took me on an amazing 5 hr whistlestop tour around the area on my last day, delivering me to the train station to head to Glasgow. Couldn't have been a more wonderful experience to mark my milestone year! love, Cathy from Canada, who'll be back to visit soon! xx PS... oh, and it's so lovely and QUIET... even though I was in a room facing Moffat Rd, I had the best sleep EVER is my wonderful king sized bed with AMPLE squishy pillows...

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful stay at this hotel. On arrival we were warmly greeted bybthe host who was attentive throughout our stay and couldn't have done done more to make us feel welcome. We stayed in the Grouse suite, which has a beautiful four poster bed and relaxing spa bath. The food throughout our stay was excellent, much higher standard than you would normally expect at a country house hotel and well worth the price. The surrounding area and scenery are beautiful and it felt like a romantic home from home. Couldn't recommend more highly, and can't wait to return

We booked a self-catering apartment for 7 days and we have had the most wonderful time visiting places from our hub in Stranraer. The apartment was so well set up with everything you could possibly need - having a half fridge & small freezer was brilliant and the local supermarket was within walking distance. Nothing was too much trouble. There is a huge free open carpark across the street, there were 2 ferry ports for our day trips, there is an elevator, great free wifi and excellent security. All of the apartments are wheelchair accessible too. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Colin and Margaret, her husband and her colleagues looked after us if there was anything we needed or wanted to know. Excellent value and definitely a place we would book again if we ever come back to Scotland. We have no problem recommending this as a fabulous place to stay, and in our 6 weeks driving around Scotland, we can honestly say it was the best.
