Yu Garden is located in the northeast of Shanghai's Old Town, with Fuyou Road to the north, Anren Street to the east, and Shanghai Old City God Temple to the southwest. It is a classical garden in the south of the Yangtze River. It was built during the Jiajing and Wanli periods of the Ming Dynasty, covering an area of more than 30 acres. Together with Luxiang Garden and Rishe Garden, it is known as the "Three Famous Gardens of Shanghai in the Ming Dynasty". It ranks first among the five existing classical gardens in Shanghai and is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

This is my second time to visit Yu Garden. I have always liked its exquisiteness, uniqueness, changing scenery and clever design. Yu Garden has a different flavor in the rain. It is very interesting to sit in a corridor and watch and listen to the rain. The only problem is that there are too many people and it is too crowded.

We believed that the cake was being sent by hotel to our room. We celebrated her birthday with that cake. Thanks to hotel for the sweet surprise. We also enjoyed the hotel’s breakfast every day, which was very diverse and delicious. One of the staff members, named Lidiia along with the rest of the restaurant team, made a great effort to ensure that the hotel guests enjoyed the wide variety of breakfast options.

Unfortunately, we were too busy exploring the city to visit the spa, the gym, and other facilities provided by the hotel; therefore, we do not have any opinion on those. Who knew?! Choosing the right hotel in Shanghai made my trip even more memorable than the attractions themselves! I stayed at The Blossom House Yu Garden for 2 nights, and from the moment I stepped in until I left, the surprises just kept coming~ ✅As soon as I arrived, a staff member proactively helped with my luggage, and I was greeted with smiles every time I entered or exited. They even discreetly upgraded my room during check-in – my goodwill towards them was instantly maximized! The room was incredibly comfortable, spacious, bright, and full of thoughtful design – a bronze-yellow petal-shaped door, a budding flower elevator door, and even large floral decorations in the room. It felt like living in a flowing floral feast. Fresh fruit was provided daily for both nights of my stay, and the hot water for showers at night was super abundant. Coming back after a long day, it was incredibly therapeutic. 🍃Breakfast was a delightful blend of Chinese and Western cuisine! Freshly cooked scallion oil noodles with braised toppings, authentic Shanghai soup dumplings, and plenty of Western salads, desserts, and coffee. Sitting in the restaurant, I could even gaze at the Bund's 'Three Sisters' (Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Jin Mao Tower) plus the Oriental Pearl TV Tower from afar. Eating while enjoying the view was just too pleasant. 🪭The most amazing part was the evening! The hotel offered travel photography and intangible cultural heritage handicrafts. I chose the Yu Garden night tour, and the staff patiently explained the humanities and history along the way, which was far more interesting than just wandering around by myself~ The location is superb, too. The Bund, Yu Garden, and Chenghuang Temple are all within walking distance, so there's no need to rush when exploring, eating, and taking photos! 🎉There are many more details worth mentioning〰️ for example, the bathroom cups were clean and sparkling, the in-room fruit was fresh and juicy, and the mini-bar drinks were complimentary.

The house is being renovated, so for the weekend, I decided to stay overnight as a local resident of Shanghai. During the two years of the pandemic, I also took my child to many iconic local hotels to experience them. After considering factors such as comfort, location, cost-effectiveness, dining, service, opening hours, and overall quality, I would highly recommend this hotel to friends planning a trip to Shanghai. The staff are very attentive and responsive to any needs. The location is excellent, situated in North Bund, Hongkou District, which is not too noisy and offers easy access to various amenities. For those visiting Shanghai, there is a stand-up comedy show nearby that is definitely worth checking out. The dining options are plentiful, and you can easily reach Siji Minfu within walking distance. The North Bund City Terrace and the Waibaidu Bridge are also within walking distance. Last night, I took a stroll around the area and stood at the North Bund City Terrace. Seeing Shanghai and Pudong's Oriental Pearl Tower from this vantage point was truly breathtaking.

Overall, it's good value for money and I'd recommend it!

Wow, this hotel is highly recommended for couples of families who want to stay right in the heart of Nanjing East Road (where everything happens) but not have to open spend. The service overall was superb. So, firstly, the location is seriously convenient, just a 3 min walk away from a train station direct from airport. While it's super near the main nanjing road, the hotel is just slightly a turn away so that it's not that noisy too. i cannot imagine living right on the nanjing east road street.. the noise level would be crazy. The hotel staff were super friendly, they had chats with us etc, making us feel more like friends than customers. Also, for those going during cold temperature periods, dont be surprised that there is no ”A/C” in the room. it is the same in most hotels in China during winter. The A/C actually blows hot air mostly. The way you get cooler air is by opening the windows. That's how they taught us. The cold air from outside is even stronger than an A/C.

Review: The Langham Shanghai — Still Well-Located, But No Longer the Same The Langham Shanghai has long been one of my preferred hotels, especially before the pandemic. After many stays, I’ve come to expect a certain standard of hospitality, consistency, and refinement. This recent visit, however, showed a noticeable decline across several areas. Service Overall service from the staff was acceptable. Front-line employees remained polite and tried their best. However, the manager on duty—a Caucasian manager—felt out of touch with Asian hospitality norms. His attitude came off as dismissive and rude, which immediately set the wrong tone. The contrast between the staff’s warmth and his behavior was striking. Breakfast Buffet The most significant drop was in the breakfast buffet. Quality has slipped in a way that’s hard to ignore: food didn’t taste as fresh, dishes weren’t as well prepared, and the overall selection felt uninspired compared to previous years. At this point, it’s honestly better to go out for breakfast. Room & Housekeeping Room cleanliness was fine, but small inconsistencies added up. Turn-down service was missed on some nights. When I requested water refill, the staff who arrived seemed confused about why she had been sent up, leading to an awkward exchange. These are small moments, but in a five-star hotel, they highlight cracks in training and coordination. Overall Impression The Langham Shanghai still has one unbeatable strength: location. But nearly everything else has declined—food, consistency, management attitude, and attention to detail. After years of loyalty, I’m now considering switching to a different hotel for future trips. The experience simply didn’t match the standards I’ve known and trusted from The Langham brand. A disappointing stay from a once-reliable favorite.

There's a tuk-tuk parked outside the entrance, but the interior decor doesn't have a Thai feel; it's more modern. The service is quite warm and welcoming. Staff open doors and greet you when you come and go, and help with luggage. The room layout is more like an apartment, not a perfectly rectangular shape, but the green and wooden walls, combined with the collision of pale gold and black soft furnishings, create a very stylish design. It's conveniently within walking distance to Wujiang Road and Zhangyuan.

Best stay in Shanghai Middle of Nanjing Road (closer to the bund area) Staff are really nice. The receiption til the maids. All are very lovely and friendly. We had a 2 nights-stay here. The shower, the bathtub, the bed , the free water, the electric toilet with bide, the free face mask, the salt scrub, the good strong hair dryer, etc. + the variety line breakfast (taste good) from 6.30-10.30 on the 2nd floor. Love everything about it. Highly recommend!

It truly is an architectural marvel that you *must* visit at least once in your life. I'm completely captivated after staying here. The hotel's environment is simply breathtaking! The world's only 88-meter-deep 'pit' hotel lives up to its reputation. Its unique design, built into the cliff face, exudes sophistication. The dynamic water curtain in the lobby is elegant and lively, and a glance out the window reveals stunning cliffside waterfalls. By day, you see the lush green mountains and rocky cliffs in perfect harmony; as evening falls, the lights illuminate, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere. Every corner showcases thoughtful design, incorporating a mining-inspired aesthetic. Every photo you take is magazine-worthy, offering an immersive experience of nature and architecture blending seamlessly. A special highlight was the 8:30 PM cliffside light and water show featuring themes from 'Shan Hai Jing' (Classic of Mountains and Seas) and a drone performance. Light and water intertwined, drones intricately depicted mythical imagery in the sky, and the cliff face transformed with dynamic light and shadow. The visual and auditory impact was incredible, creating an amazing atmosphere. It's an immersive dive into the collision of technology and culture, an experience definitely not to be missed. The room experience was a delightful surprise! The room design is simple yet grand, with meticulous attention to detail. The sapphire-themed interior felt luxurious. Thoughtful amenities like a Dyson hairdryer and high-end toiletries were provided, and the facilities were comprehensive and modern. The entire room was spotlessly clean, the bedding was soft and comfortable, and the independent bathtub and scenic balcony were definite bonuses. Waking up to the natural scenery in the morning was incredibly blissful, making for a perfectly comfortable stay. The dining experience was a culinary feast! The Chinese restaurant, Cai Feng Lou, lived up to its Black Pearl Restaurant rating. The beef was tender and juicy, and the soup was rich and flavorful. Every dish used high-quality ingredients and had authentic flavors, truly showcasing the essence of Chinese cuisine. The Western restaurant, Fish Eye, had an incredible ambiance, surrounded by an aquarium underwater. The seafood was fresh and sweet, and the Western dishes were exquisite and delicious, both visually appealing and tasty. Whether it was a main meal or a casual snack, everything was incredibly satisfying. And the service was impeccable! A special shout-out to our exclusive butler, Alice. From communicating our needs before check-in and providing detailed explanations of the facilities upon arrival, to offering thoughtful reminders and responding to requests throughout our trip, she was patient, attentive, and incredibly thorough. She anticipated every need, making the entire journey feel so warm and cared for. All the hotel staff were also enthusiastic and professional. The bellhops proactively helped with luggage, and the restaurant staff were attentive and meticulous. You could feel their genuine service attitude everywhere you went. The overall experience was absolutely fantastic. This stay was comprehensively satisfying. The environment, rooms, dining, and service all exceeded expectations. It's definitely a top choice for a vacation or getaway. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and highly recommend it to everyone! 🌟

Is the third time that we stay at this hotel an it never disappoints. Is the perfect hotel if you want to stay near Hongqiao station or the airport and it has plenty of dining options around and things to do. The line 2 takes you straight away to the city center and to PVG airport if needed, but bear in mind that PVG airport is very far from here. The hotel breakfast is well balanced with many options, both local and western. The service, gym, pool and amenities are on point. Spacious rooms, nicely cleaned and comfortable. Definitely will come back next time I stop in SH again.

I booked Superior Double Room and had requested for a quiet room, but was assigned one facing the main street and a food centre rubbish room. The rubbish truck arrives around 5–6am every morning and the noise was quite disturbing. If you want a good sleep, I recommend avoiding rooms facing the main road. The female receptionists were lovely and helpful, though the male staff member was less friendly.
