"Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. "The Wyndham Grand is spectacular. Rooms were fantastic, and the buffet was immense in luxurious surroundings. The service by staff in the restaurant was exemplary as however busy it was the staff were incredibly personable and helpful. 5 star experience."

"Location is good.New hotel hence everything is new. However as the room we were given was beside management office and because they were smoking inside hence the smell of smoking went into our room as the hotel open the room before guests arrived. We put do not disturb sign however the housekeeping still comes in to change the towels etc."

"Good location, quiet and comfortable room with views of the city gate. Was asked all kinds of questions when checking in (where I was going, what I was travelling for, where I was coming from and how I got to Datong. They even asked to see my train ticket!). Being interrogated on arrival doesn't feel very friendly, and nowhere else in Datong or other parts of China was I asked these questions."

"The location of the hotel is good, easy access from main road to get big bags to it and also to go around the ancient city both during day and night time to enjoy all the landmarks. Missing signages make it a bit difficult to find the hotel at first. Also, while we had paid for a bigger rooms the room barely had walking space. It had no luggage storage space or cabinet. The washroom and room floor was not cleaned. Staff on the other hand are very friendly and willing to help with all the questions - on local travel, places to see, vegetarian food, etc. They find a way to help to the best. All in all was a good experience and would have been better with some adjustments."

"Our family of four spent one night in Datong to break our week in Beijing, and this hotel was such a breath of fresh air from our more ”utilitarian” hotel in the capital. We stayed in the Lushun room. It was modern, clean, airy, and had good room temperature control despite being the shoulder season. Highly recommended if staying there with kids, as they can have their own separate area and parents can truly relax. We didn't try breakfast, though, as it's a 10-minute walk away, and we just wanted to rest in the morning. We just ordered food in."

"This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The service at the buffet breakfast was impeccable while the breakfast varieties were acceptable. The service provided by the staff with the employees' tag below was superb during my breakfast. The room is huge, a truly international 5 star quality. Daily cleaning service was great while I didn't manage to get their name, but kudos to their services. All in all, my experience here was great, and I would recommend anyone who stay at this hotel."

"We spent four tonight's in Datong hotel, although this hotel's grandeur is somewhat jaded,we still felt we were staying somewhere special. Thoroughly enjoyed our balcony overlooking the gardens at the entrance. What impressed us most of all was the restaurant in the adjoining Grand Hotel. After a month, travelling in China,this was the most delicious and interesting food we encountered. It was so good we ate there each night and it gave us the opportunity to try a varied range of Chinese dishes. Datong was a really wonderful place to spend a few days, and I would highly recommend it."

"This hotel clearly needs some updating, the walls have missing paint and the bathroom is old (feels like they haven’t updated it in over 15 years). The room was insanely hot and it was difficult to sleep well, as you can’t change the temperature using the thermostat. The temperature in the bathroom was also so hot that the soap bars would melt by just laying by the bathroom sink while you were away. To get to the entrance to ancient city you need to walk a lot, 3km. The room service was also not so good, as they didn’t even fix your bed sheets on the bed. The only good thing was the buffet breakfast."
