Hotel 3-Bintang di Wilayah Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

I spent one night in the Chelsea Hotel to do some sightseeing in Dar and it was very good for that purpose. The hotel was a little bit dated, but otherwise completely up to the standards which I expect from a hotel. It's located not far from the clock tower, which to my understanding pinpoints the centerpoint of the city. The actual sights I went to see started further away, about 20 minutes by foot. The room was adequate in size and had good aircon. I had a twin room. I first tried sleeping in the bed further away from the aircon, but the air blew directly there, so I had to move to the bed right under the aircon unit. The hotel was located close to a busy road and the honking of the cars could be heard up to the sixth floor. However it wasn't bad. The breakfast was ok. It didn't have a very wide selection, but the items I tried were tasty and of good quality. Also the setting in the restaurant was pleasant. The only negative I have to say is the extraorbitant exchange rate. I had paid my room rate in advance, but I had to pay the city tax (1.50 USD) at the hotel. I asked to pay in Tsh and had to pay 7000 Tsh, equivalent to about 3$. My loss was only 1.50$, so it wasn't a big deal in my case, but the principle left a bad taste in my mouth. If the room rate would have been 1.50$ higher but the city tax 3500 Tsh, I would have left as a happy customer. The hotel offered airport transfer for 42000 Tsh. It was quite pricy. The fixed price at the official taxi stand at the airport was 30000 Tsh. On the way back to the airport I used a rideshare app to get my transfer, it cost Tsh 12000.

It‘s a fairly new hotel and part of Marriott Bonvoy. I enjoyed to stay there a lot, the staff is very friendly and attentive. The breakfast buffet is nice and with various options. The pool has a nice size, however lacking a view. Talking about view, some rooms have nice sea view. Others have pool view but you also see the green landscape which is nice too. The rooms are pretty big, kind of small TV though, but they feel very comfortable and the bed is great too. Also USB and an international power plug at the night stand, which still a lot of other hotels don‘t have. Rooms are cleaned very well. The gym is very basic, only machines for cardio and a few weights. Ate dinner at the restaurant several times and always got good food. There is an area called Slipway just 5 walking minutes away, that also provides great food options and a bit of nightlife.

Close to the Airport, delicious breakfast and dinner, free pickup from the airport, the list is endless 👌 I recommend everyone to use this hotel.

Great setting. Lovely hotel. Seaview rooms are amazing for the morning view. Breakfast could be better, not many good vegetarian options

Just checked in and already feel at home. If you have a reservation everyone greets you by your name with a huge smile. This is so welcoming. Wish I was staying longer than one night. Tomorrow off to Moshi to climb Kilimanjaro so this is the ideal place for a transit stop. Hence the name. Tatu at the front desk communicated all information excellently and answered all my questions by email so i felt like we had already met. Asanti Tatu and team. Definitely worth the money. In fact I feel like I am getting so much more than I paid for. They even arranged a driver to pick me up from the airport right as I exited customs.

Very bad experience with restaurant… Orderd chicken breast with chips, confirmed it with waitress, got something whole different… I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone! Drinks were okay, but that’s only because they didn’t make it… they dont serve coffee either…

Had a really bad experience. hotel forgot about picking us from the airport. Breakfast was included but it was not ready when we left the hotel even though it was not an early departure We asked not be put on a high floor as there is no elevator but they put us on a high floor and did not care Manager Juma promised that with our second stay he will make sure we sleep on ground floor but that did not happen. They put us on a high floor again and so I had to climb 4 flights of stairs with my bad leg. Juma did not even bother to help organise transport to the airport or assist with our bags. Worst experience of the trip to Africa.
