23時の門限があるため、ナイトライフを楽しみたいなら全くおすすめできませんが、部屋が広々していて机も大きく、窓が大きいので明るく、静かな環境なので、部屋に篭って勉強したり書き物をしたい人にはおすすめです。建物は敷地の入り口からかなり歩いた所にあり、夜は薄暗く人通りも全くないので不安な方は早めにチェックインしましょう。コンビニは遠いので先に寄っておいた方が良いです。

This is a quite good budget hotel. The staff is not very attentive but maybe because it’s a budget hotel. The breakfast includes toast with butter and jam and noddles. Overall the value for money is very good, the only thing is that is a bit far from the center, around 30 to 40 minutes by bus. But there is a bus station just in front of the hotel. After a day of walking it’s maybe a bit far. Room has everything you need, to small to put a big luggage on the floor but we managed.

The room is so big and near the subway, only 3min walk. The front desk are warm and helpful, I lost my bag in the room when checkout and they helped me keep it, so nice of them!

It was such an amazing stay. Cozy beds. Great welcome and service. Close to the subway (9mim walk) and bus stop (2min) with a 7eleven across the street. Many restaurants around and some very nice welcome drink.
The highlight for me though and I never say this:
The soap and shampoo!!!! Smelled amazing and unlike traditional hotel shampoos that leave my hair dry and brittle, it worked great!
Highly recommend!

The hotel is located in a peaceful residential area, offering a very clean environment and a quiet atmosphere. Although it’s slightly further from the main city centre, the calm surroundings make it a relaxing place to return to after a day of exploring. The service is excellent, and the hotel even sells Kyoto bus and subway one-day passes, which is extremely convenient for travellers.

This is my favourite hotel on our travels around Japan. The room size was a little small but it was fine for a few nights as a base to explore Kyoto. It's walking distance from some great sites like Nijo Castle, the Samurai Ninja museum and the bustling market. The transport links are great and easy to get to most places of interest.
Staff were very helpful and even rushed to fetch towels when we came in from the rain.
There is no restaurant on site so, breakfast is only a bento box but it was so tasty! And there's a fantastic little cafe/restaurant just down the street (to the right as you leave the hotel) which was lovely for dinner.
My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have a larger selection of manga in English or other languages.

Hotel distance was average for a family of 4 (ranging from 17-50s) but Suki-ya, Family Mart and Lawson was within 5 min range if thats what you are aiming for. To Metro (5-7 mins) and to the shopping district (15-20 mins)
For the slightly downside, help desk was quite reserved / unfriendly ish? Only doing their jobs for the sake of it, very little smiles but super professional nonetheless. I had forgotten my things and requested it to be delivered to another hotel in Osaka I was staying and it was settled within 1 days (~1800¥?)
Amenities was pretty decent as they had bath salts and tea bags as well as makeup removers etc.
Overall pretty decent stay, but there was hotel tax required for 200¥ per pax x days stayed during my stay there.

My mother and I had a very comfy stay at this traditional Kyoto home in a residential area (FYI, the private rooms are on the upper floor. The staircase will be very treacherous.) The team was great and explained everything in detail. I appreciated that they took my mother's suitcase up as I followed behind. I liked the local neighborhood feeling compared to the buzzy central area, but you will need to take a bus from across the street to get anywhere before hopping on any train. Btw there was no shortage of places to eat in the neighborhood. (The 93 bus is convenient from the hostel because it will drop you off at the entrance of the Arashiyama bamboo grove.) I would stay at this location again.

Nefasto e imperdoble que intente comunicarme con ellos por teléfeno debido a que me he dejado prendas en el hotel, y no hablan ningún idioma que no sea japonés entre otras muchas cosas. Para ser un hotel de 4 estrellas deja mucho que desear, no lo recomiendo.

在小巷子裏面，收拾的很精緻。
房間很緊湊，典型的日式風格，把一大堆功能模塊都整合在一起。能夠滿足基本的生活功能。關上浴室的門之後發現浴缸居然意外的大，可以泡澡。
裏面是和式榻榻米風格，但對於中國人來講就是打地鋪，最多可以塞三個人，但會很擠。兩個人的話其實也有點擠，比較適合情侶這種連上廁所也打算粘在一起的來住。
進門前台自助取鑰匙，全程未見房東。見仁見智吧，有的人會很喜歡。
交通很方便，離地鐵和公交車站很近，京都交通大概都是230日元起。坐上車大概10分鐘能到祗園四條和多個核心旅遊景點。
附近有24小時便利店，由於日餐太少吃不飽，可以跑去覓食，可以刷付款寶。
附近有幾個好餐廳（燒烤，海鮮等等），但都需要提前預約。最後衹好去吃拉麪，結果5平米的拉麪店裡做了不懂預約的三個中國人和一個英國人。

TThe Travel HunterThis was our first time staying in the Gion area, and Hotel the Celestine truly elevated the experience. The atmosphere is calm, elegant and very Kyoto. From check in to departure, everything felt smooth and professionally handled.
The cleanliness was impeccable. The room was thoughtfully arranged with a perfect balance of modern comfort and traditional Japanese touches. Beds were extremely comfortable and the space felt well planned, not cramped like many city hotels.
What makes this hotel special is the location. Stepping outside places you immediately in the charm of old Kyoto. Walking through Gion in the early morning before the crowds arrive was unforgettable.
Service deserves special mention. The team was polite, warm and always ready to assist with genuine hospitality.
A beautiful property for anyone who appreciates quiet luxury in a prime cultural setting. We would gladly stay again.

DDreamscomeTrueVery nice ambience and a new luxurious hotel in Kyoto close to the 清水寺。 Restaurant choices are quite limited inside the hotel complex but they have got a great spa with excellent service staff. Down the hill should be some international restaurants at Park Hyatt Kyoto another luxurious five star hotel. Breakfast bento boxes not too appetising and not much food selections for in room dining as well. But the neighbourhood was quiet and nice.

WWinnie-on-the-goMy first time using Kyoto as a base for exploring the surrounding cities was a great experience. The hotel is conveniently located just across from the station. The amenities are a great selection and I’d recommend adding green tea to the menu.

NnxmdyThis is the second time that I’ve booked here because the last time I came everything was satisfactory. The room was really wide compared to other hotels that I’ve been to in Japan. Not just that, the onsen was clean as always and had yuzu inside this time but maybe it’s because it was winter but I couldn’t see it the next day so that was abit sad. The service was great!! You can check out and still ask them to hold the bag. The only downside I could say was that the walls were slightly stained ?? I think it’s due to the luggage being moved around by other individuals. It’s not too the point that it would bother anyone. But it did catch my eye abit.

PPengguna TetamuAlthough it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below.
Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks.
Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly).
Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion.

The only issue was cleanliness, there were to many hair after other guests in our room, and a paper bag under one bad. Looks like it wasn't cleaned well.

DDr.p3pp3rI stayed here in a double room and overall had a pretty good experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and both the air conditioning and heater worked very well. One thing that really stood out was the bathroom — the bathtub was much larger than what you usually get in Japan. I’m a tall person, and I could actually sit down and lie back comfortably, which is rare. Most hotel baths feel very small, but this one felt closer to around 1.4m in length, which made having a bath genuinely enjoyable.
The bed was comfortable, and housekeeping did a great job — the bed was made every day with fresh sheets. Wi-Fi was also very fast, which was a big plus. Amenities were decent, and you can pick up extra items if you need them.
Check-in is a bit late at 3pm, which I didn’t love, but that’s balanced out by an 11am checkout. Having that extra time in the morning made it feel worth it overall.
I did have a couple of negatives. The strangest one was finding an old sock behind the TV when I arrived. It was very obvious and not hidden, so I’m not sure how it was missed during cleaning. It was a bit gross, but I just left it.
Another downside was the mini fridge — it’s more like a cooler than a real fridge. It keeps drinks from getting warm, but they don’t get properly cold. In summer, this really wouldn’t be good enough. Replacing it with a proper mini fridge would be a big upgrade.
The other major issue was the lift. It is painfully slow, and there’s only one lift for the upper floors. On checkout day, I left my room about 10 minutes before checkout time, and I almost didn’t make it downstairs in time because of how slow it was. That part was honestly pretty ridiculous.
Location-wise, this hotel is excellent. It’s very easy to get to from Kyoto Station — just head south and you’re there in about 4–5 minutes. It’s also very convenient when leaving Kyoto by train.
A tip for using the subway: instead of going back to Kyoto Station, walk right from the hotel to Shijō Station. It’s on the same subway line, you’ll get on before Kyoto Station, and the train is empty — so you’re almost guaranteed a seat and can ride comfortably to your destinations.
For food and shopping, there’s a shopping mall just across the road toward the station with a Don Quijote, McDonald’s, and other options. The hotel is also right next to a Coco Ichibanya curry house, which is fantastic and open late.
Overall, despite a few odd issues, this was a solid stay with a great location, good comfort, and very easy access to transport. I’d happily consider staying here again.
