We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in Dali. Its location is one of its biggest advantages, as it is within walking distance of Dali Ancient Town. We could easily explore the lively streets filled with shops, restaurants, and local attractions, especially in the evenings when the area comes alive with activity. For Muslim travelers, the location is even more convenient. A Muslim street is only about 1.5 km away, making it easy to find halal restaurants, bakeries, and supermarkets. What truly made our stay exceptional was the outstanding hospitality from the owner and staff. Before our arrival, we shared our train details with the hotel, and they arranged a complimentary pick-up from Dali Railway Station. As soon as we exited the station, someone was already waiting for us and immediately escorted us to the car, making our arrival completely hassle-free. The owner went above and beyond to help us throughout our stay. On one occasion, we were unable to get a Didi ride, and the owner kindly drove us to our destination free of charge. This level of service is rare and greatly appreciated. The hotel itself is beautiful and very photogenic, with stunning views that are perfect for photos. The rooms are spacious, clean, and appear to be newly renovated. There is also a laundry and drying area on the top floor, where guests can enjoy fantastic views while doing their laundry. Our children especially loved the hotel's charming interior, friendly cat, and small fish pond. These little touches made the property feel warm and welcoming. The hotel is only three stories high, so there is no elevator, but this was not a major issue for us. The staff were always ready to assist whenever needed. Another thing we appreciated was how accommodating the hotel was. They provided almost everything we requested, including an iron, transportation arrangements, and even umbrellas when it rained during our first day. They also offer train railway station transfers at a very reasonable price. Overall, while the location, rooms, and facilities were excellent, it was the owner's kindness, generosity, and genuine care for guests that made our stay truly memorable. We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Dali.

Excellent staff service. The throw in experiences such as photography session and tea appreciation were extremely refreshing. The afternoon tea was of very good standard. The management was very willing to take in feedback and acted upon it immediately. The balcony was a very serene place to chill and soak in the Dali vibes. One will love this place if country-style is your cup of tea.

Lovely hosts. They offer pick up from the train station. They were extremely hospitable as well and gave plenty of good recommendations. the room was cozy, loved the fireplace next to the bath tub. The view, both in the morning and at night, was lovely! 20 mins car ride to the old town, but its always easy to get a cab! Highly recommend this place, the hosts rlly made the stay much more enjoyable.

My wife and I are Americans and travel full time. This means we are usually in a new place every couple weeks. We spent 10 days at Milin and I cannot speak more highly of it. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. It was spacious, clean, and had many amenities I wouldn't expect for this price point. There were slippers for us, robes for our use, two washing machines and a dryer for our use as well as detergent. The view from the roof was fantastic seeing the beautiful Cangshan mountains with misty clouds rolling over them and a view of the three pagodas in the distance. The location is surpurb. You are close enough to Dali Ancient Town where you can walk to a huge variety of restaurants without the need of a Didi (Uber or Grab here). But you are also within meters of the main road from which you can summon a Didi to take you wherever you want. Each evening we were provided a delicious custom coffee or tea by our homestay host along with cake. The in room controls were surpurb with a 110 inch projector screen, remotes for everything included heated floors. Everything was controlled by a smart device (like an Alexa). The only funny thing is that the smart device only speaks Mandarin and I definitely do not 🤣. The attempt to get Google Gemini to translate merely resulted in my two phones and the device speaking in Chinese and me having no idea what was happening. But even without the smart device, I was able to project my phone and laptop to the screen. Beyond the room quality and other perks like cake, the homestay family was fantastic. It is a husband and wife team with the father helping and an adorable son. During our stay we needed a prescription refilled and as I mentioned, we don't speak Chinese. They helped us navigate the process and within a day the medication was delivered. We also purchased an antique mask at a shop and they helped us navigate shipping back to the states. I cannot think of another place we have stayed with this kind of service and hospitality. As a westerner I felt so at home here for our 10 nights in Dali and would highly recommend Milin Hotel to anyone else looking to stay near Dali Ancient Town!

We had a very great stay at Licheng Resort Hotel! The staff and boss were very responsive and helpful throughout our stay, making everything smooth and comfortable. The location is excellent just a short walk to Dali Ancient City, very convenient yet still peaceful. They prepared the specific room type we requested, and the room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We especially loved that the bathroom has an automatic bidet, such a great detail! Breakfast was delicious and satisfying as well. They kindly received our packages on our behalf, which was very helpful. We also had an issue with our charger adaptor, and they generously lent us theirs. On top of that, they arranged an early morning drop-off to the station for us, which we truly appreciated. Overall, a fantastic stay with warm hospitality. Highly recommended!

I cannot recommend Sunyata Homestay in Dali enough! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was more than just a place to stay—it was an experience of genuine warmth and care. The rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable, providing a serene escape after long days of exploring. The afternoon tea and breakfast they served were nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve stayed in multiple 4-5 star hotels across China over the past month, but the gourmet food here easily surpassed them all. Every bite was thoughtfully prepared, leaving me in awe of the flavors and quality. The location of Sunyata Homestay is also perfect. It’s just far enough from the bustling crowds to remain peaceful and quiet, yet close enough to Dali Ancient City that it’s only a few steps away from great eateries and the heart of the ancient town. The balance is ideal for anyone seeking convenience without sacrificing tranquility. A special shout-out to the young lady working in the coffee shop up front—her coffee is unparalleled! My husband, who is a daily coffee drinker and rarely impressed, couldn’t stop raving about her brews. It was, hands down, the best coffee we had during our travels. The staff here deserve every bit of praise. They were attentive, accommodating, and genuinely cared about making our stay memorable. However, what truly sets Sunyata apart is the incredible owner. My father had a bad accident in Dali on a rainy day, and I can honestly say I don’t know what I would have done without his support. Despite my limited Mandarin, he spent an entire day accompanying me to the hospital, ensuring we were well cared for and understood. The next day, he went out of his way to pick up the CT scans for us. His kindness and compassion left me speechless. The owner’s dedication to his guests is reflected in his amazing team, all of whom go above and beyond. Without his help, I would have had to cut my trip to China short. Instead, he turned a difficult situation into one where we felt supported and cared for like family. Sunyata Homestay is truly one of a kind, and I will forever be grateful for their hospitality. This is not just a place to stay; it’s a haven of comfort, care, and culinary delights. Thank you, Sunyata, for everything!

Beautiful area right by the lake. Yes, a disadvantage being remote from the city areas (not walkable), but if you want to enjoy the serenity of waking up right by the lake, this is a great choice! I loved how our first-floor room had a view of the lake - very close by! Also, you can see the sunrise from this side of the lake! Very peaceful in the mornings. We coordinated with the guesthouse via Wechat beforehand, and they even helped arrange a complimentary pickup with a driver from the train station (since we were staying 3 nights). Later, we also arranged a full day with the driver to drive down Haidong (east side) from Shuanglang ancient town and southward, which was worth it, since otherwise it'd be hard to get to those locations. Cars cannot come to the guesthouse area, so the guesthouse drove a little cart to pick us and our luggage up; they also helped us when we departed. Didi from this area (from a spot ~100-200m away) takes a bit of time for the drivers to come in, but not too long. The breakfast was lightly spicy mi xian noodles, served by some aunties, with condiments like pickled vegetables, also corn, hard-boiled eggs, and banana available. I would also recommend taking time to bike along the lake - it seems there's an option to rent one for 20RMB somewhere but I couldn't find the location. A more convenient option (good for shorter bike rides) are the many shared bikes that can be scanned along the lake. If you go northward by foot or bike along the lake, there are many other guesthouses and nice cafes (including some very popular, picture-perfect wang hong cafes), along with some green fields that are nice to check out. Behind the guesthouse is a small village area; we walked here and got a late lunch on one of the days, but there doesn't seem to be as many options. Traveled here with my mom, and we were quite satisfied. I feel that relaxing inside the hotel and nearby is already pretty nice. Great stay with helpful staff!

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Dali Ancient Town Meishan Guesthouse, and it exceeded my expectations in every possible way. Location – unbeatable and worry-free The location is extremely convenient, right in the heart of Dali Ancient Town. As soon as you step outside, you’re surrounded by beautiful ancient streets and alleys, full of local character. 2-3 mins walk away from the Bars. Attractions, cafes, shops, and amazing food are all within walking distance, which made exploring incredibly easy and stress-free. From check-in to check-out, the entire stay felt completely worry-free. Service – warm, genuine, and unforgettable The biggest highlight of this guesthouse is without a doubt the host. The lady boss is unbelievably friendly, considerate, and welcoming. She is super nice, enthusiastic, and very meticulous in everything she does. From contacting me in advance, patiently explaining routes, to sharing travel tips and local suggestions, she made me feel taken care of even before I arrived. Staying here truly felt like coming home rather than staying at a guesthouse. What made this stay truly special was the personal connection. She even invited me to join a barbecue with her and her friends. We had drinks, chatted late into the night, and shared stories about our cultures, life views, and experiences. Even though I only stayed for two nights, that evening made my time in Dali unforgettable. I felt incredibly lucky to have arrived back just in time for the barbecue. The Bai Jiu, the Yi Zu-style barbecue pork, and the homemade dumplings she made were all fantastic. The atmosphere was relaxed, warm, and full of laughter. Even small details were fun, like the pot cover shaped like the Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy, which gave us a good laugh. It was one of those nights you don’t plan for, but it’s the highlight of the trip that you will remember for a long time. 😎 Room & Sleep Quality – quiet, comfortable, and well designed The room itself was quiet and very comfortable, with good sound insulation and a thoughtful renovation design that blends modern comfort with traditional charm. The bedding was clean and high quality, and the bathroom was spotless and well equipped. I slept extremely well every night. The entire guesthouse is beautifully designed, cozy, and relaxing, making it easy to unwind after a day of exploring. Value – exquisite and worth every penny This is a highly cost-effective and exquisite accommodation. You can see the attention to detail everywhere, from the design to the service. It perfectly balances the charm of the ancient town with modern convenience. It’s absolutely worth experiencing, and I would not hesitate to stay here again on my next trip. Final thoughts I returned home a few days ago, but when I think back on my trip to Yunnan, Dali still stands out as the most chill and relaxing place and Meishan Guesthouse is a big reason why. The friendly host, the warm atmosphere, and the meaningful conversations made this stay truly special. If I could give 11 stars, I would. Hands down one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. Highly, highly recommended. Will definitely be back!!!
