Get this hotel!!! We were supposed to stay for a night and then decide what to do - we ended up staying 3 nights and were very sad to leave. Every so often when you travel your hotel experience significantly improved your holiday - this was one of those cases! First of all the basics, we were looking for a nice family friendly hotel walking distance from the beach - and this certainly fit that category. The rooms are fine, you could see the sea from the windows, comfortable beds, pretty clean, slippers, plenty of towels, wifi everywhere etc. There was also a small playground for small kids and hammocks (picture) etc which was cool, we also saw mahjong tables, but didn't have the time to play. The hotel is located near a fairly large field, filled with exotic birds, butterflies and crickets etc. There were also geckos everywhere (love them), but we didn't see any inside the room. There were some mosquitos outside on the terrace (don't love them), but the repellent took care of those and we didn't have any in our rooms. Felt like you were near nature, in a good way. The kids loved to play on the beach, it's great for sand castles (the hotel had buckets and shovels free of charge) and searching for crabs, fish, shells, sea snails etc... The moms loved it too, especially to walk around and explore during low tide. (the hotel also provided equipment to catch crabs and other sea creatures etc if you wanted to - they also had a service to cook them for you) We especially enjoyed playing under a nearby pier during low tide to avoid getting badly sunburned. The supermarket across the street sell dozens of single malt whiskys and beer from all over the world (they also have ice cream and other stuff) - and the dads recommend the roof terrace for that after the kids are asleep. (picture) If you know how to ride a scooter/ebike they rent them across the road too, and it's the best way to explore the island. The small roads (almost devoid of cars) were awesome to drive on, just remember to stay safe. I don't usually care much about breakfast, but the included breakfast was great! (picture) The kitchen staff was also super laid-back about the whole thing - this whole hotel radiated a very laid back tropical island feel that made you forget you were in China. However the reason I write this review is because of the owner. (last picture) (I'm not sure if he speaks English though, but I'm sure you'll manage) Super chill guy! Immediately after booking he contacted us to arrange the transport from the boat. He helped us buy tickets for the trip back. He was willing to come and pick us up at any time if we got lost on the island. He had great recommendations about basically everything, and whenever we made plans we were sure to ask for his advice. He was basically always reachable over wechat too. These are just some of the things that he didn't have to provide, but did (or offered): unlimited cold drinking water, ice, proper glasses, a coffee grinder, buckets, shovels, hats, umbrellas, sunscreen, aloe vera plants, flashlights, mosquito repellent etc etc and it feels like we only scratched the surface. It feels like whenever I asked him for something he always had a solution that exceeded my expectations. Great host! I've traveled to almost 100 countries and while this wasn't the fanciest hotel I've stayed in by any means, this was one of the most memorable hotel experiences I've ever had. If anyone I know plans to visit this island I will for sure recommend this place.

HOW TO REACH: The local name of this hotel is “Wang Jiang” tower or building. This helps if you are traveling from Yangshuo Railway Station by taxi. I traveled with my friends – 3 families (with kids), and we are non-Chinese. Typically, several taxis are available at the exit of Yangshuo Railway station. Someone approached me who can speak English – so took a 10-seater. The cost is about RMB 20~25/person & takes about 40 minutes. ROOM: Spacious, clean, and well-maintained. The balcony view helps, depending on which side the room is located on. I chose the front side view, which has both a river view and a mountain view. HOTEL: Although the hotel doesn’t have a lift, the staff delivered the luggage to the room. If you need help at the time of checkout, they may help. But I did it on my own at the time of check-out. It is conveniently located close to West Street (10 min walk). HOTEL-RESTAURANT: very good restaurant in 1F (vegetarian options as well!). It is very popular among the locals & we liked it too. But it gets very busy during the weekends. So, if the room is close to 1F, it will be loud till ~ 22:00. HOTEL STAFF: All are very friendly and do their best to help foreigners. Many staff can speak English. In my case, YAWEN is worth mentioning, as she helped us a lot in planning our local trips. Even before arriving at the hotel, we had a plan. But our interactions with YAWEN (& her feedback) made it very convenient & time-effective for us. LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: It is possible to book tickets for the Ruyi scenic spot, Silver Cave, Hot air balloon, Li-river cruise (from Yangshuo), Xinping (hot air balloon), Bus-trip to Longji Ricefields, & many more at the hotel.

Truthfully, I am having time finding words, and that's unusual for me. I must admit I was disappointed when Yangshuo Mountain Retreat cancelled my booking because of a wedding that had booked the place, but the photos of the garden sold me. I've been to Yangshuo perhaps five times over the last 10 years, and have stayed in every kind of place there-from a cheap hostel to the boutique rooms but my dream was to stay at YMR, where I always stop and have a whiskey by the river. When we pulled into Liqui Town, I realized I had not explored this part of the valley and was disoriented. But then the staff greeted us, carried in our bags, gave us tea, peanuts, and oranges, and set to taking care of our every need. They were this way with us from start to finish-sending us off with a bag of fresh mandarin oranges and hugs-and a promise to send an invoice for our remaining expenses-which we still have not gotten! Apart from the wonder of just those details, the food was exquisite, our farmhouse room was stylish and simple yet so thoroughly Chinese-in the most real and unassuming way. It was an honor and a pleasure to sip tea in the farmhouse and look at the many woodcut posters and Chinese propaganda songs on the walls while staring up from the tea table to the simply elegant clay tile roof resting on the original beams, feeling the mud bricks breathe out their history silently under a soft rain and the early crows of the neighborhood roosters. I If one is quiet and still, I believe this little gem will give up her secrets, her history, and the story and true feeling of old-time village life amongst the stunning splatters of karst and water. We enjoyed watching the staff use the traditional well to clean up around the property, and the garden did not disappoint. Truly magical and filled with bonsai that some local master has been enjoying for many years. The food was excellent. We spoke with some Chinese tourists on the way out who were very disappointed with the local version of beer fish, ah but ours was exquisite, along with the drinks and italian food. It's very rare to find this mix of culture, authenticity, generosity, and good service all wrapped into a package that does nearly guarantee the fulfillment of the motto the girls wear on their shirts, ”be inspired....” I would recommend this to anyone.

The staff, location, restaurant, and accommodation facilities were all wonderful. The butler and the housekeeper both reached out to me before I arrived and each added me on WeChat. I do not speak Chinese, and I was traveling alone, and they were very solicitous and helpful. The view from my room was beautiful, and I loved the design of my house. I do not have a car, so to go to the Ping’an terraces required walking about 10-minutes down to the main road, hopping on a local bus (¥15) and then riding about 20 minutes. It’s fun to spend a day at the rice terraces village, but for a lovely, peaceful, and unique accommodation I absolutely recommend this homestay.

Can’t fault the hotel for service and cleanliness. The rooms are basic yet with a great level of comfort. Beds are comfortable and you have everything you need. The ladies at the front desk are really sweet and ready to help. You need a translating app or they can call someone who speaks English to communicate with you. As a foreigner being here at Chinese New Year it was hard being in town. The fireworks were loud and there was some street noise but we understood this is normal for the time of year. It would be great if the hotel utilised some of the outside spaces to make them a nice place to hang out. Some things to know: transport is expensive to get to the hotel unless you do busses and trains. However this is not straightforward and may not fit in with your timeline. Transport to some features is also pricey- about 400 per car Chinese new year prices (it’s not that they overcharge it’s just that things are far and there may not be another option for transport). We were a large group and needed 2 cars. If you get off the main road and into the scenic paths it is beautiful with cycle routes. There is a sweet bamboo river cruise you can do in and around town: Food is traditional Chinese everywhere you go but we have been here long enough to navigate that. Definitely go river rafting and cave exploring at Gulong waterfall/ cave. Tongling waterfall and scenic area is close there as well but we didn’t go. It is 80km away and a car will cost you but it is worth it. We also went to Detian waterfall which is nice but busy at Chinese new year. There was a a cool human conveyor belt up a section and a slide down which is fun. For this trip there is a bus leaving from the Mingshi scenic area bus terminal. Tickets are 20 per person. People here are generally sweet and the area is beautiful but it is rural China and you need the right attitude to approach this. It will be a rewarding experience if you have that.

Very lovely staff, helped book a trip to Ruyi peak. Bathtub was definitely a winner, you’ll want to close the blinds though as there’s another hotel next door. Breakfast was wholesome and generous, Guilin noodles and some small snacks. We expected the area to be a little more secluded but it looks like a lot of tourism and development is going on in Yangshuo. Still a wonderful stay.

We stayed here for four nights, so we feel we got a pretty good idea of the area and the hotel. The check-in process was easy and very fast, you just need to show them your passport/travel cards. Once we got our our room (there is an elevator), the rooms automatically have curtains that open and music that plays. It’s quite loud at first, but you can go next to the bed to turn off the music or else it’ll do it every time you enter your room and put in the room card haha. The room is clean and the beds are fairly comfortable. While traveling in China, I’m usually curious as to how hard/soft the bed is, but it was a lot better than I expected. The place is new, so the rooms are still in good condition. We really enjoyed our room, the view was nice, and it was quiet. Although, because the rooms have the music that turn on each time you put in your room card, you will be able to hear the rooms next to you music play if they don’t turn it off haha. What we really enjoyed was how we had free coffee and fruit everyday! I didn’t realize it was everyday of your stay, I just thought it was one time. You can choose between americano or latte. They also have free ice cream! So many perks of staying here. We rented scooters from them and it was a little bit more than the surrounding places, but we felt it was worth it because of less hassle. We also enjoyed the breakfast here. It is a bowl of Guilin noodles with vegetables and pork, and they have self-service soy milk, buns, sweet potato, and corn. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will be coming back. Also!!! Check out the bbq place across the road from here, it’s really good and service is amazing.
