We rented a 2-room suite for family travel as our landing spot each day after our adventures. The master bedroom does not have its own private bathroom. The 2nd bedroom with 2 Queen beds has its own bathroom. The HVAC system in our particular room only had 1 temperature sensor for the entire suite which was located in the 2nd bedroom. This was an issue with comfort at times. The walls and floors are extremely thin as we could hear other guest room conversations from adjacent rooms and rooms above ours as well as toilet usage and even curtains being opened in the morning. There was extremely loud shouting from the street as two homeless gents were fighting with each other for hours in the middle of the night - that was not a one-time occurrence. There is also significant noise due to road traffic from both Benson Blvd and Seward Highway - that didn't bother us too much but it may bother people that are not used to it. There was significant parking and the location is extremely close to Seward Highway which made our travels very convenient. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel was reasonably clean. The hotel had a very nice breakfast with standard buffet items like eggs, bacon, bagels, biscuits and gravy, cereals, and a pancake station. They also include made-to-order items like omelets. Overall our stay was very pleasant.

We went to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights and chose the this property because of a referral in a travel magazine. This is a love/hate review, the love is nature and the lights came through 3 nights in a row. The property is located 15 miles from Fairbanks, difficult to get to with snow covered roads. This place is completely handled like Covid is still active, there are no employees there to help with any questions of any kind. To find out anything you call a local number and a male answers who very difficult to understand and doesn’t know hardly anything about the area. This place is being advertised as a B&B but there is no breakfast unless they consider coffee offered (you make yourself) to be breakfast. The rooms are adequate with large windows and the common area has big windows too for viewing the Northern Lights. The problem is their exit and security lights are on which interferes with viewing and taking pictures of the Aurora light show so you need to be outside away from the building. The building is two levels and you can hear footsteps upstairs a lot and other guests making a lot of noise. A part time employee comes in every day to take out trash and clean rooms of those who have checked out. They threaten you with financial penalties if you don’t check out at 11:00 am. Other than a generally pretty location there is absolutely nothing good to report here. Oh, by the way the price for this awful experience is $600/ night, takes a lot of nerve to charge this but I assume something has to give or they will close their doors.

We live in Seattle and flew up for our 30th anniversary on Valentine's Day. I booked a specific junior suite 7 MONTHS in advance and called 2 days before we arrived to assure we still had that room. I was told we did. When I booked it with manager Brian Mercereau, he assured me we would have that room. He called me back and said the room was occupied and it ”was out of his hands”, but to ask for him when we got in from our flight. He assured me he would be there. When we checked in, he had left for the day. To make a long story short, we ended up on the 8th floor - we were supposed to have been on the 18th floor when I booked. Five days later we started smelling paint coming in through the vents. I called downstairs to be told they were painting on the 2 floors above us and all rooms there were being painted. So we had to move AGAIN to get away from the smell. We were there for 8 days and spent over $2100. When we checked out, an older man with glasses didn't even ask how our stay was, never said thank you, just handed us our bill receipt and said ”there ya go.” The bottom line is you aren't valued as a guest at the Hotel Captain Cook - even return guests. You are just a number and they couldn't care less. Everyone else is wonderful in the hotel from the valet attendants, bellhops, restaurant workers, etc. But their front desk really needs work. Most of the time they are cold and aloof. They don't care about their guests in the long run.
