Hotel 2-Star di Gunma Prefecture, Japan

This was my first and only stay at a ryokan so I don’t have much to compare it to. I chose this lodging because of the cats and good reviews on the food. The cats were really sweet and I enjoyed playing with them. I have 2 cats of my own so it was really nice. The food was so beautiful and delicious - the mushroom soup at dinner was amazing. I really enjoyed it. The private bath rooms were very convenient and open 24 hrs. I thought the facilities were clean and very pleasant. The location was very close to the central area and a quick walk to all the important sites including the bus station. The only comment I have was in the morning someone was smoking and the smell got ****** into the 2nd floor hallway so maybe more care should be taken to be sure the smoke stays outside. The host was so nice and sweet and I used google translate to ask questions. The matcha madeleines are so tasty I bought a box to take with me.

It was better than any other inn I've stayed at so far. The futons were fluffy, the bathroom was clean, and the breakfast was full of vegetables. It was the best inn. I was surprised more than anything by how nice the people were.

I don't know where to start. Our stay was a highlight of our trip to Japan. This area is so beautiful and calm. We had a large room in the old house, very.spacious and with comfortable beds. The onsen in the room was amazing. But the best of all was the care of the owner in preparing delicious meals for dinner and for breakfast. Very generous and prepared with such attention. Each dish has its unique flavour. We stayed three nights and were truly sad to leave. It is a different world. We went on walks and we were given a tasty picnic box. Everything was wonderful. The place can be easily reached by train to Shimonita from where the owner can pick you up. Please visit this place. You will not regret it.

The room facilities are a bit old. But because it is close to the station, it only takes 6-7 minutes to walk and it is very cheap. It's okay to stay for one night After checking out. Because the luggage has been stored in the hotel. It's raining heavily again. So I asked the hotel to borrow an umbrella. It rained all day and I went back to get my luggage at night. My mother-in-law is very nice. She gave me the umbrella (but I didn’t want it). She is really considerate❤️

Just like a small Japanese-style hostel, the clerks do not speak English, and they communicate with me in Japanese with no more than 10 sentences. The room is older, but there is everything there, and the bathrobes are beautiful. The hot springs are all public, there is no private soup, and the toilets are also public. There is a squat pit and a toilet. The toilets have to line up that morning. The sense of form at dinner is still in line with the routine of Japanese hot spring hotels. The dishes are ok, and the breakfast is a bit disappointing. It is all carbon water, and the hot spring eggs are not. The geographical location is an extra point. This town has many mountain roads. His home is a 1-minute walk from the bus station, and it will not be very tired to go up and down, let alone ask the hotel to drive to pick it up. According to these circumstances, it is okay to give 4 points, but I don't recommend everyone to live, because this house has hidden charges, and in winter it will charge 500 warm house fee and 150 hot spring water tax. There is no mention on the booking page. If the hot spring tax is not unfamiliar to people who frequent Japan, what is called the warm house fee is very strange. Communicate with the store. They showed me their official website, which means that there is a statement. I said that I didn't set it on the official website. I have no way of knowing it. I prefer to believe that the owner ’s idea is pure and not intentional, but doing business is very frustrating. No wonder it takes up such a good position and does not renovate. Similar hotels that have been renovated next door can sell twice as much. Of course, the result of the matter itself is still good. This hidden charge problem was later subsidized to me by Ctrip. I praised Ctrip customer service and dealt with it in a particularly efficient and professional manner. The reasons for not recommending are: 1. Difficulty in communication. I went to the next few places and visited. Although the English is not fluent, it is obviously much better. There are local characteristics (I changed to the hotel the next day); 3. In addition to the so-called warm house fee, his family's original price advantage of only three or fifty rmb will no longer exist, and you can choose the same price slightly more expensive, Choose the few hotels, the single room price is also in this grade, but the conditions are much better, anyway, this one also experiences impenetrable Japanese feeling, if you really want to experience Japanese feeling, you can choose a hotel above 1500rmb.

The family room didn't include breakfast. It had a spacious living room and bedroom. The free parking was a bit far, but still manageable, as the staff would help drive the car to the parking lot and carry your luggage to the room. The manager then gave a very detailed explanation of the hot spring facilities (using Google Translate), which took quite a while. They said it was a hot spring where adding cold water was allowed in small quantities! I quickly realized that to enjoy the original hot spring water, they didn't add a single drop, allowing it to cool naturally to around 45 degrees Celsius. For me, that was too hot and completely unacceptable. Luckily, we added a lot of water here, and it was comfortable. Even the kids dared to come in!

I use it every time because the cospa is good. It's a pity that there are only men in the public bath, but the unit bath in the room has been renovated, so it's easier to spend than before. Saizeriya, Komeda cherry blossoms and Matsuya are nearby, and they walk a little, but there are other colors 々.

Everything was good to be honest. Only the check out timing was written on trip.com “before 12” however the owner said “it is 10 am”. We went out in the morning and we came back before 12, the owner removed all our belongings from the to the entrance so we felt about annoyed since we could only call us to excuse us before removing our belongings by himself. Also, it is not written on the website, but the owner asked us to pay 300 yen (150 each) as taxes for using Ofuro.

The place is far from the city so it’s actually pretty hard to access to this place. But the owner is really nice, she helped us with a lot of stuff, including with luggage transfer and taking us back to the train station. She also made us food because she’s worried we’re not eating enough and it’s cold. On top of that, if you are planning to go snowboarding or skiing there is a shuttle bus near by that takes you to the Kawaba ski resort for free!

The location is perfect, right on the main square. But this ryokan doesn’t ready for foreign travelers, even Signboard only in Japanese. Workers doesn’t speak English also. And there is no kayseki dinner. In the room you’ll have matcha tea and beautiful tableware, traditional clothes. For breakfast you should choose time 7:30 or 8:30 and it’s so big (2 photo), but for me was very salty. There is two onsen - outside and inside on different floors.
