Needed convenient stopping point from Surrey to Chestefield, one night, for a funeral. Location ideal. Despite proximity to M1 itself, road noise was not excessive. Receptionist was really welcoming; gave me a choccie bar and bottle of water. You can stroll to the services for Mcdonald's or Costa - and WH Smith etc, (if open). . The overall decor is a bit 'tired' but everything was clean, bed fresh, coffee/tea facilities. Would have preferred the radio to be fitted by the bedside not table across the room (!). Freeview TV quite adequate for one night........ Bedroom was huge (guess it would double up as a family room at times) - and possibly I could have taken my dog with me, in which case the extra space was great. For functionality cannot fault.

Stayed for two nights, room 3. First impressions were good when we arrived. Warm welcome as we entered. Check in was quick, was given directions to all aspects of the pub, restaurant, bar, room etc. the room was very clean and well laid out with all you’d require. Friendly staff in the bar. We ate there too and the food was very good. Breakfast had a wide choice of options and the food was very good and blood it. Very nice stay for a long weekend. Would recommend.

Having read some of the reviews we lowered our expectations. The hotel, although in need of updating was perfectly fine for our needs. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The outdoor pool, geo-thermal fed, has no chemicals and is absolutely wonderful. We had 55 minute massages and Charlene, our masseuse, was amazing - highly recommend. The Spa area is small with a relaxation area, a jacuzzi, steam and spa rooms. Again a little tired, but we were informed it is due for renovation soon. We had our evening meal at the hotel and it was very tasty. All in all, a really lovely one night stay.

I am glad I used mainly Clubcard vouchers to pay for this otherwise I would have been very disappointed & gutted to have spent that much money, the hotel was just average. The rooms are actually in external ‘cabins’ very basic, pillows were the hardest I’ve ever slept on & so was the mattress. The whole place felt very old fashioned & a bit run down, not the quaint country pub way like we had hoped. No atmosphere at all. The evening meal was very expensive for the quality £16 for scampi & chips, this was the equivalent of what we pay locally for a quality meal cooked from scratch. Breakfast was not great, Aldi versions for most condiments & nothing seemed particularly fresh, mainly out of packets, not nice fresh croissants & not quality. We stayed at Alton Towers the next night & the difference was like night & day, it was the same price had I not used the vouchers.

We stayed in the promonarde rooms two adults and two children. You would never thought we was staying in a shipping container very quiet, very clean even the edges of the carpet was hoovers smelt lovely when we walked into the room. Compact be great fun in our room was shower , small tv, hairdryer, tea and cover . 10metre along was another room that contained toaster, microwave, full sink with washing up liquid kitchen . Just up the steps was hotel reception and entertainment room for children did activities at night like kids disco, games room free football table, and Lego table . Above reception is a restaurant though we didn’t eat in there looked nice. We went to the local pub called the fishpond great food and bands on at the weekend. We had two nights first day went round the Gulliver’s park second day we went to heights of Abraham . This place is great for kids we did look at the other rooms but found you got more outdoor space on the promonarde room ie could sit and watch the kids play. There is also a bus you can sleep on that looked great fun too .

Stayed here for one night. As was heading south for home, Staff were very welcoming and attentive Room was comfy. Though I felt like I was in the crocked house as floor was really uneven but that didn’t bother us. Food was great Would stay here again

Very unusual place! I wouldn’t choose this part of Buxton again - prefer to be down the hill where it seems nicer. Also crazy expensive even though it was a festival night. The pub is pretty awful (not somewhere where I would ever go and this and the place next to it both had bouncers on the door in the evening). The staff are friendly and helpful though. The accommodation is all at the back and you don’t need to go through the pub once you have booked in. The room was small but with a large comfortable bed and thankfully a fan as it was a hot night. It was clean and nicely furnished although no accessible plugs near the bed. We got cool with the window open and fan on but sadly were kept awake by regular shouting and swearing until 4.30am. Not good, although the lady serving breakfast said this was unusual. It was due to her being so sympathetic (and the breakfast was fine) that I gave 4 stars instead of 3. I wouldn’t choose to stay here again but there are good points!

The location is excellent as we travelled to Derby by train and it is 2 minutes walk. The atmosphere was very pleasant and peaceful; there were very few other guests when we were there. The lift was slow, and once we reached our floor, there were still stairs up and down to our room. Anyone with mobility issues would be advised to check this out before booking. There are certaily some more accessible rooms. Our room itself was spacious with a bath/shower, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer etc so all as we would want. The bed was comfortable. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, particularly the Portuguese ladies who served us breakfast. The breakfast was not bad - fresh fried eggs and the usual cooked breakfast. Tomatoes were on the menu - we expected fried tomatoes but they were actually tinned plum tomatoes heated up. We did not have any other meals in the hotel - there are some excellent Indian restaurants very close by.
