Hotel 2-Star di Shanxi, China

I dont often post reviews, but this hotel absolutely deserves all the positive ratings it gets! Firstly the location is excellent, just a stones throw from the main street. In fact the whole city is easily walkable but if you struggle with mobility there are several shuttle services. Secondly the value for money is incredible, the room felt luxurious and the central courtyard is very pretty, so for the price you really cannot complain. Thirdly, and arguably most importantly the hosts are absolute sweethearts. Even though I only stayed one night, they gave me a lift to and from the train station, as well as a free bottle of local vinegar! I seriously can't recommend this place enough!!

If you want a more authentic experience than staying in a fancy hotel, this is your place. Mrs Liu (sp?) was so lovely and helpful. She speaks a bit of English and is very fast on the translation apps for what she doesn’t know. She gave us a map of the Ancient City and explained where we should visit. Every day she gave us water bottles. We stayed 2 nights. You can experience a kang bed here, in a cozy room in a quaint courtyard. It was quite firm but still comfortable. There is air con which was needed when we were there. The bathroom is small but we found that everything didn’t get wet, despite the small size of the room. The inn is on the “taxi-bus” route just off South Street. As it is a block from the Main Street it is significantly quieter as the honking of “taxi-buses” doesn’t happen as much in the alleyways. Just be careful to walk on the sides of the road as the mopeds and taxi-buses are electric so quiet, except for the honking which is loud and constant, and they drive quite fast for the size and busyness of the streets. There is plenty of food places just a short walk away from the hotel. The ancient city was a lot more touristy than we had expected. You need to prearrange with the innkeeper to organise a “taxi-bus” to pick you up from the South Gate. Regular cars are not allowed inside the city wall. We were dropped by the DiDi but it is too far and busy to walk with luggage to the inn. Mrs Liu and her husband helped us out with their mopeds. Not many “taxi-bus” drivers know the inn as it is a smaller private hotel, so make sure you have the address printed out to show them. The taxi-bus is 10RMB pp per ride and you can flag them down anywhere on the streets they are allowed on, but they may not want to go where you want to go, so just flag another one until you get one that agrees. You scan the drivers QR code to pay. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Pingyao Yunshu Inn.

The place was very clean, nice comfy beds with privacy curtains. Free snacks, free computers to use and a free laundry. Probably even more which I forgot to mention. The staff was super nice and helpful. I can't recommend this place enough! If I come back to dating I know where I will stay again!

My only issue was that they allowed smoking in the restroom, and the night-guy at the desk also smoked- this smoke gets into the very climate control system they advertise and is disseminated throughout the building- and you breath it all night long- the amount of smoke you breath is decided by how much others smoke. The air in Datong is much better than other parts of China but then you go to an otherwise clean hostel and breath toxic fumes all night and wake up to a sore throat and increased risk of various serious diseases. I read again recently how respiratory viruses and bacteria attach to cigarette smoke as it is exhaled and then goes into the lungs of everyone breathing. With the exception of upper-respiratory disease and discomfort: New construction. Excellent location just a couple of minutes walk to Old Wall- see the evening show! Complimentary water in lobby. Complimentary washing/drying machine. It would be excellent without the poisonous fumes from cigarettes being spread throughout the building.

I’m honestly speechless! The host upgraded me to a suite without me even asking—it was such an incredible gesture. He speaks enough English to help with anything you need and is genuinely one of the kindest people I've met. Both he and his son even ran out to the street to catch me when they saw I was walking in the wrong direction! They truly have hearts of gold. As for the stay, everything was spotless. The bathroom has a seated toilet and the shower has great pressure and hot water. Even though Pingyao was close to zero degrees, I stayed perfectly warm. Also, this is easily the most exotic and beautiful hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The interior design is just stunning!

一進酒店，就能感覺到這裏環境特別好。大堂裝修得很有格調，燈光柔和温馨，讓人瞬間就放鬆下來。走廊乾淨整潔，沒有一絲雜亂，還擺放着一些綠植，增添了不少生機。 我住的房間更是讓我驚喜。空間寬敞明亮，佈置得十分温馨。床鋪軟硬適中，被子和枕頭都超級舒服，睡在上面就像陷進了雲朵裏，每晚我都睡得特別香。房間的採光也很好，白天陽光透過窗户灑在床上，心情都變得格外舒暢。而且房間的衞生做得非常到位，各個角落都一塵不染，完全沒有那種久住的陳舊感。衞生間也很乾凈，洗漱用品質量也不錯，用起來特別安心。 除了環境，老闆的服務更是沒得説。從我們到店的那一刻起，老闆就熱情地迎接我們，幫忙提行李，還詳細地給我們介紹了酒店的設施和周邊的遊玩景點、美食餐廳。在我們入住期間，老闆總是主動詢問我們的需求，有什麼問題都能第一時間幫我們解決。有一天我們遊玩回來比較晚，老闆還貼心地給我們準備了熱湯，讓我們在疲憊的旅途中感受到了家的温暖。 這次在[酒店名稱]的入住體驗真的太棒了，環境好，老闆的服務更是無可挑剔。強烈推薦給來[城市名稱]旅遊的朋友們，相信你們也會和我一樣愛上這家酒店！

We stayed in a clean modern apartment in a high-rise building. Everything worked as expected. We had a good view towards the south suburban area of the city, but just outside the apartment next to the elevators, we could get a good view on the city center — especially nice at night when the city is lit up. The staff at the reception (located in a restaurant just outside the apartment building) was kind and helpful not only with managing the reservation itself but also helping contact a tourist attraction. We had dinner at the restaurant where the reception is, and can recommend that too, both for great local taste and very cheap prices.

The owner was very kind, really a nice and jolly person. This contributed a lot to make our stay pleasant, despite the old room, requiring a urgent maintanance, especially the carpet and the toilet.

Staff are very nice , helpful and friendly Rooms are like in pictures Very clean Next to the river and walking bridge, colorful light at night I like everything of this hotel.
